  • High output alternator?

I need a high output alternator...like, 300 amps. I know im crazy. or maybe even if theres a kit to hook up 2 alternators, but i would still need like, 150-160 amp alts. Anyone know where to get them or what type of vehicle would fit a 97 3.8l firebird? Thanks.

What in God's name do you need 300 amps of alternator for?

Only ones I can find are 200+ amps, on eBay.

god damn! That is alot of power.. Highest I have seen in the CS130D or even the CS144 which you can get a adapter for is 250 Amp. I run two amps and only pull maybe 120 Amps with them.. what are you going to be running? A second alternator would require alot of work..

Are there any other vehicles that fit ours?

              I found one! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/300-a...QQcmdZViewItem

Iraqqi makes a CS144 alternator with 300 amps. There is a pigtail adapter to hook up a CS144 in our cars.

              For adapter

I have not tried putting a CS144 in our cars but supposedly it does work

Ill be running 2 high quality amps, one 6 or 7 channel for speakers and 1 monoblock for sub. the sub is going to be 2000 watts along with the amp. ill probably have a kinetik battery in the back for the amps and a regular battery up front. ill also be running a car computer so that will be drawing some power. and maybe if i have time some game systems :)

wow, thanks a lot for finding that. im still learning tho and im just wondering, would it be harmful to have it idle at 100? or would that be fine with all the power during idle. i know when an amp says 5000 watts MAX POWER it usually means it had about 300 rms, and max power usually means nothing, but i dno how alts work

5000 Watts at 1 Ohm probably.. or maybe 2 Ohms.. Specs should tel you the actual power draw of the amps.. or worst case check what fuses are on it.

I run two amps draw maybe 120 Amps.. if at Idle and playing Metalic I can see my voltage going down.. how often are you at Idle? My Alternator puts out 80 Amps at Idle at best. you can replace the pully and put a smaller one worst case scenario and it will output more power at idle. Obviously this puts mores stress on alternator so will wear out quicker.

                      Re: High output alternator?

i was just saying, if a crappy amp says, for example, 5000watts MAX. then thats not how much the amp really puts out.

The alt says 300 max power, 100 at idle. so if im drawing all that power. and then i come to an idle at a red light or whatever, i dont want my system exploding. but im not sure if thats how alts work.

                      so someone correct me please.

                        Re: High output alternator?

It will not explode. You wil notice voltage going down. Have to remeber it only pulls that much power only when hitting the low notes every few seconds. You will notice voltage going down since it drains battery. get a LARGE CAP in addition to the Alt and you will be fine. I have a 10 Farad Cap in my system. It put a strain on the alternqator and battery but for the few min sitting at a light it wil be fine.

Well, I didnt literally mean explode, just some sarcasm.

And if you have the correct alternator size, batter, and wire guage, you shouldnt need a cap.

                              Re: High output alternator?

It looks mounting holes look different then th one for the camaro/firebird alternator. With some heavy modification it might work but stock I really doubt it.

Extra Battery.. Caps.. They help relieve the load on the alternator for instant power. I am no expert by any means, but from what I have been told/read.. A cap can release power faster then a battery or even a alternator.. If you find that the 100Amps at idle is not enoguh you can just replace the pully on the alternator with a smaller one so will put out more at idle.
