  • Air Fuel Ratio gauge hook up

This is probably a stupid question but how do I go about finding the a/f ratio wire? Just got my gauge today and want to hook it up. If anyone could clue me into where the wire is that would help alot.

Also I'm thinking of getting a transmission temp gauge. Is there just a wire to tap into for that? I didn't think our cars have a trans temp sensor. If not how do you hook one up?

im pretty sure you either wire in another 02 sensor or you hook it up to an existing one.

Is there a reason you would need that information while you're driving?

I know that you need to find the existing O2 sensor wire but I don't know where to find it.

No I don't NEED trans temp info while I'm driving but I would like to know, I like my gears and would like to know when to let her calm down a little bit. That and whether I'm driving or not I wouldn't mind knowing. If it's to much of a problem I'll go with another gauge, just thought it would go great with my a/f and hopefully a nitrous gauge :D

Locate you're O2 sensor by your cat, there will be a group of wires going from the O2 Sensor towards the engine area, if i remember correct there is a white wire, brown wire, blue wire, and maybe one more???? the blue wire is the one you want, just use a wiretap to hook into it, its the easiest way! I don't know it off hand. I tapped the pre cat o2 sim lead going into my pcm, checked it out in my chiltons. There is a high and low o2 wire only one works and i can't remember that either. Oh well email me and I'll try and remember to go out and check.

Thanks for the replies. I wish I knew where my haynes was. I was going to ask if it mattered if it was the wire straight from the sensor or not. I'll be atempting this later today so I'll probably be back with more questions. Thanks

Anyone know what the trans temp gauge requires? Maybe I should just write AutoMeter.

Oh and whats the best way to route this wire? Above my instrument panel, across the stereo and through the firewall by the computer? Isn't the O2 sensor on the passenger side? Where should I tap into power? I'm sure I can find a ground somewhere.

Trans temp will come with the guage, sending unit and wires and with a sending unit fitting that you can put in your tranny.

You can use power from the fuse panel. Make sure that you are on a fused hot wire.

I think the easiest way is to tap the wire right off the pcm, and stick it through the grommet right behind the pcm and routed it through under the dash.

I found the easiest was top tap the wire coming off the O2 sensor, then run it through the firewall by the PCM to the passenger cabin. Also for a 12v power source i just tapped into the fuse for my gauge panel, and as for the ground, i used one of the bolts around my steering column on the firewall

Thanks for all the help. But being the idiot I am I made it harder than it should have been. After I jacked up my car and checked out the wires from the O2 sensor I tested the light blue wire and for some reason figured it was the wrong one. Well after an hour or two of testing wires to my pcm and searching all over for my haynes I decided to try the light blue one again, and what do ya know that was it to start with. But at least I found out our cars have 4? O2 sensors. At least thats what it looks like in the diagram in my haynes. Also I guess it's been a while since I've seen a A/F gauge cause I was expecting it to be a bit brighter and for some reason I thought only one LED was on at a time. Guess I was wrong.

So the trans temp gauge comes with everything you need? How difficult is it to put the sensor in? It doesn't require taking alot apart or drilling anything does it?

Yeah ur gauge should have come with a sender. It looks like a little bolt with a nut on the opposite side of the threads. Youll know what I am taking about when you see it. the wire that goes to the gauge will go inbetween that little nut and the washer. To hook up the sending unit to your tranny (I have a
4l60E auto don't know about manual) You want to look on the driver side
of the tranny and the front half of that side. It will be kind of on the top of that side and you will find a little bolt that is I think a 8mm. If you take that out you can screw in your sender there and you will be done. I did this about 2 months ago. If you have any questions you can either email or call me
