Remove the panel and see if the wire is back there. If it is then just buy the hatch button on ebay. There are several of them for sale on there for sale.

Took the panel off today and yes the wire was there..i played around with it and found a temporary solution until I buy the button.. you can take a regular wire and stick both ends into the hole and the hatch will open..maybe someone has the same problem and might find this usefull

Mine is a 1993 Firebird and the button is on the driver's side lower dash panel.

                  Re: Hatch Button

On the subject of having the Hatch button in the glovebox or under the driver dash, I believe any T-Top / Convertible will have the button in the glovebox so you can still have a semi-locked area in the hatch with the Tops off. It doesnt matter in the hard-top version of the car so they put it somewhere easier to reach.

Thats just a guess, but I had a 94 T-Top camaro with the switch the glovebox, and my 94 firebird w/out t-tops has the switch under the driver dash, so it makes sense.

4th gens always had it down there and Camaros only did after they changed the dash in 97, otherwise it's in the glovebox.
