  • headlight dims....

this is the third time it has happened. my passenger side headlight (on my firebird) has started to dim considerably to a dull yellow, compared to the drivers side which is a bright white light. When i replace the light with a new one it is as bright as the drivers side for about a month or two but then starts to dim and become significantly less bright.

is this simply corrosion on the metal tabs that go into the headlight? i used dialectric grease this last time on the metal tabs, but maybe i need to use some sand paper on the metal tabs?

could this be anything else? bad wiring? bad ground?

or is this just corrosion like i think it might be?

I'm sick of replacing the head lamp with new ones, they are twenty bux a pop, i need to get this fixed once and for all.

Ya know what, I used to have a problem with my corner markers constantly dying after like a week. Ya know what I did? I bought a different brand. Haven't changed em since.

2 different brands huh? Fair enough. That was just my little bit of experience. Other than that, I don't know. Trace your wires as best as you can. That's what I always do with most questionable electrical problems.

some guy thinks it's a bad ground causing it to dim.

anyone know where the grounding point is? :wavey:

it was a bad ground... cleaned it up and works good as new now.

Yeah, the birds are bad for that being that the assembly sees the elements when they're on. I had a problem with the connector finally cracking, but I switched to H4 HIDs and replaced the connector for the switch. But true, all you have to do is clean the contacts.

the contacts on the pigtail were fine (the 3 tabs going into the headlight assembly) but apparently the stock ground point that sits on the pass. side fenderwell was starting to corrode cuz i cleaned that up and then the lights came on as bright as new.
