Re: Alright, time for some setup ideas...

Top names would be Garett, Precision, and I forget the other but their 1000+ , but the decent turbos would be Master Power, like the MP T-70 I just sold, go for about $550 new, they are journal bearring turbos so they just use oil to to cool the bearings. Thats about the only ones I know maybe someone with more knowledge on brands will post. I won't post if I don't know. But let me know when you get your turbo, I have a -10an oil drain setup I paid $80+ for but will sell for $40 + shipping, I went a different route with the line. Also read some articles , go to Garretts website they have a good stuff for turbo's and setup to read about.

Re: Alright, time for some setup ideas...

            Okay, how's this setup then?

Precision Turbo Buick TE-44 - $650 ((Internal Waste gate))
Forward Flow Headers / Hotside - $500 ((I've been quoted this))
Air to Air Intercooler - $60
            BOV - $40
            Oil Lines - $50
            LS1 MTI Lid - $100
            Cold Side Piping - $250
Total Price in Parts - $1,650
            ---
            Running Stock Converter
            Running Stock Motor / Injectors
            ---
I'm not sure how much it will cost to have this all installed. The FFH and Hotside will already be assembled but NOT installed, the Cold Side Piping is the cost assembled too but also not installed...

            Then there's also tuning...

I'm guessing another $500 - $700 bringing the total cost somewhere between $2,150 and $2,350??

Re: Alright, time for some setup ideas...

Sounds good , at least get somee 36lB injectors , if there not going to get the job done I would go with 65LB(60Lb) injectors. For the engine I would at least run 105lB springs and modded retainers or you could go 130lb springs and a double roller to be on the safe side of no valve float. If your shifting under 6000 rpms I would think the 105lb springs(which I have some for sale new:) would hold up. While your in their some Comp 5/16 pushrods or even Comp .105's would be nice. Then you would need a walbro 255 fuel pump about $100-$110 shipped on ebay. Then it would be up to you to run methanol injection or not, I guess see how it runs with out it and see if you need it, I know since I'm in AZ I will.

Also the air to air intercooler for $60, don't cheap out on the interooler theres the ones listed on ebay, the 31 X 12 X 3" for $125-$150 I forget.
Cold side pipping is way too much , it dosn't take that much 3" ALM pipping to run to the turbo and to the TB, I picked up 2 kits by acident for $150 CRX Racing, which comes with pipping ,silcone connetors, 16 T- bolt clamps and vac. line. When I'm done with mine I will have basicly a extra brand new kit.
For the FFH's have you been talking to Scott?

fuel like 93+ 116 or my favorite e-85? tune, you buying hp tuners, tuning costs/ dyno? both things to consider.

also go 65lbers they idle fine. more is better in this case.

                    lol Hi scott!
Yeah, I've been doing alot of talking to him.

As for the tuning, it's going to be done at the shop in which this is all going to be installed at. I was still going to upgrade the motor btw, this means heads, cam, pushrods, fuel injectors and what not down the road... I just wanted to get things started for right now. I'm aiming for about 320 - 350 RWHP with this stock setup, then later with the heads, cam, bigger injectors, I'm going for 400 - 420 RWHP...

what I quoted was for the Stage 1 turbo setup, later on, and probably less than a year from now, I'm going to do the motor if I go this route. How does that sound?

Now with the Fuel Pump, I'm definately going to do that, I forgot to mention it.

why would you run a lid setup with a turbo? and where are you getting a decent intercooler for 60$?

why do you want a buick housing turbo in the te-44...i myself hate internally gated turbo's.. since your having a set of ffh's built. then i would put a 38 or 44mm tial in the Y collector and slap on a turbo with a little newer technology. if you must have an internally gated turbo...they make the GT series turbo's with internal gates and i think they even offer them in a 3 bolt buick housing. if you don't need an internal gate or a buick housing... i'd go with a gt3082R. its uses the gt40 compressor wheel found in the 35/40r's and the 60mm gt30 turbine wheel for insanely quick low end response but is only 80hp behind the big 35r's top end... its rated at 600hp.. whatever it is you decide to put on...you can build any possible option at atpturbo.com

If the GT35R is suppose to spool quick , the GT30R would be insane with their GT wheel. They do have the 5 bolt flanges for wastegates too.

It's also supposed to be a show car, I don't like the idea of opening the hood to see a large plastic bezel on the front thats missing the air box in the center revealing the frame. Won't look right.

Buick turbo was mainly for simplicity. I'll check that site out.

1320... Not sure why you don't care for internal gate... Did you have trouble with them in the past?
I still use one on my Camaro with a 5" downpipe.
They are simple and inexpensive and little to go wrong.

The Buick turbos are setup for a 3.8L. There is write ups on each one.. how much power they are able to produce, stall speed needed and CFM rating.
And you can upgrade from one to another with little or no changes to your system or fitment. All the home work has been done on these and it makes it very easy for any other 3.8L to follow in their footsteps.
Plus all the one's made for Buicks are quality.
That's just my take and experience.
I've done both internal and external gates on these series2 and prefer the simple Internal.
