  • Thinking about going to a Electroic Boost controller

So as title states , are electric boost controllers worth it? I'm going to go with a Greddy or AEM , probably AEM since the gauge will fit my currrent boost gauge and I like the overboost protection and how you can hit a button and it will show last highest boost, plus the bright colors is what got me.LOL I'm going to call my wholesaler to see how much he can get one for. So I will probably sell my Turbosmart manual boost gauge once I get this one. Any others with Electronic boost controllers , whats your opinion ? Please no yes or no answers give some input. LOL Thanks Steve

i know they make a boost gauge that shows the highest peak boost thats not a boost controller, my friend has one in his evo, i was going to get one also, but i talked to a guy at Austin Performance here in town and he said people were having bad luck with all of the boost gauges like that so he doesnt even carry them anymore

I've got a greddy profec b and it seems to be alright. The main reason
I like it is because of the low boost/high boost settings. It also has a
      warning light/sound if it overboosts.

The only reason I'm running it is because it was given to me...lol. I was
perfectly happy with the manual boost controller.

The AEM one I'm looking at has the low / high boost settings and can set it to beep if reaching max PSI and you can just push the buttons to lower it or make it higher, its a 2 1/16 gauge with the sender that mounts in the engine. I'll have to look at it again becuase I think it reduces PSI when it reaches the max setting to 10-20 % to be safe. I know its about $300 and would just replace my current boost gauge so it would be nice. Nice gift to ya the greddy's can go up to like $500-$600 so you made out.

there's nothing wrong with an AEM tru-boost controller if its setup right. and since i run only aem digital gauges anyways...it fits in nicely with my wifes DD 06 WRX..black face, black bezel, black car, black dash..

Thats the one I was looking at the all black and then it has the 3 or 4 different colors. I'm going to call the wholeseller tomorrow and see how much he can get one for, there going for about $310 on ebay. Question how would you setup it up if your running a max of 10 PSI?

Re: Thinking about going to a Electroic Boost controller

you could do it in a number of ways. the tru-boost has two adjustable boost settings. a high and low so to say that you can set but still adjust.. so you could have four actual levels to choose from. low boost, high boost, scramble, and off..which defaults to wastegate pressure.

Yes, I just like the over boost protection feature and has a nice digital dispaly, I emailed the seller of one thats $269 shipped and he said they come with both silver and black trim panels, so I will probably pick it up.

Mine will most likely stay in the green spooling up quick to 10-12 PSI with the GT35R but will be a nice street machine with the 3.73's. Also hope to get a Performbuilt II tranny next year and work on building up another engine, a L26 engine with JE forged pistons. So I have a back up engine and then turn up the boost on the current engine, I think the dealer said the max is 15-18 PSI with a .63 A/R(500HP max) on the GT35R shifting under 6000 RPMS. Then would have to upgrade to a .82 A/R to get the full 600HP out of the turbo. But its mainly just for the street but I will get a dyno run and maybe a couple of track passes aslong nothing blows up.LOL But something always does it seems with my car.
