  • Misfire in low RPM

So as you guys know I've been running my turbo for some time now. It's pretty much always done this but it's really starting to bother and worry me.

There's no KR showing up via HP tuners but after my car has warmed up, when I go to put it in park or neutral it sounds like it's misfiring every couple seconds. It even does this while I'm in drive but hardly ever and only at a stop or when my rpms are low.

I had my rpms up to 900ish but lowered them to stock and it got worse. It seemed like my car almost died and it f'n bucked on me. So I put it back up to 850 I think. Now it still does it but it's way less severe.

I've messed with my injector tables since I still believe I do not have them right. I've checked everywhere for vacuum leaks, but with no real test other than listening closely to every vacuum line. I've tried eliminating the BOV by removing the vacuum line from there but that wasn't the problem.

Also, every time it happens there's a lean jump in my wideband. I absolutely have an exhaust leak somewhere since my wideband already always reads ~15.3 in closed loop. I'm assuming it's a header gasket or the ball flanges since I've been under the car 50 times looking for little holes in bad welds. Would an exhaust leak even cause it to misfire as it has been?

The more I type the more idea's I'm getting.. like maybe it is my header gaskets and I'm effing my narrowbands.. I dunno. I need a little support on this one.

A lean idle will make it miss like that.

Ok, so assuming it's not a vacuum leak.. Injector table? MAF table? I'm gonna go look over my tune.

        Is it damaging at all?

Shouldn't be damaging, there is no load on the motor. I would think a leak of some sort. The O2's should tell it to add fuel if they see it.

On the intake side.. Can a post turbo, pre throttle body leak cause anything like this? I would think that wouldn't matter normally since it's all pre MAF but if I physically open my BOV my engine lags a little.

I would think it's one cylinder that is more lean then the others. Like a leaking intake gasket. Spray some carb cleaner around the intake gaskets and see if the idle changes.

Yeah I definitely agree that it sounds like 1 cylinder rather than all of them. I'll check over everything again today and grab a can of carb cleaner.

I went to Cavalcade of Stars yesterday at Norwalk and got some pretty decent videos. The itch to race is back again pretty bad so I gotta get this thing in tip top shape. I want to hit 12 seconds this year without breaking anything.

Screwed around with some stuff. Cleaned the MAF, seafoamed. And altered my intake pipe to aim more at the MAF. The misfire has gone down by a lot. Upon seafoaming I also found the huge exhaust leak I've been looking for. I don't think I welded it too well since it was in a really tight spot but things are getting better. I just need to spend some more time with my baby. It probably needs a new tune again since the adjustment to the pipes. But like I said, things are getting better. The AFR gauge seems to be closer to where it should be.. Apparently I have more leaks to find.

Does anyone see anything wrong with sticking a smoke bomb in my tail pipe then closing it off? I'm serious about this. I'm frustrated as hell with these ****ty AFR readings.

I guess that would work, but I'd do several and in many colors! It will take awhile to reach all the way up to the engine, plus it will show any leaks in your exhaust. Give it a good 5 min and plenty of smokers to see anything.

Dark areas and a bright flashlight are your friend here.

lmao, I'm seriously considering it. I'm worried about them hurting o2 sensors. Or I could just remove em and plug em.
