  • CO2 Intercooler Sprayer Project

I am have doing a lot of research and reading on the intercooler spray systems. I am not convinced it is worth the $300 to buy a complete setup off ebay or vendor but if I can make the project work for under $100 and net about 5-10 horsepower I would be happy. Meth injection is out of the question right now as I dont have access to HPT currently and I am turning the boost up to 18 pounds soon.

    My plans are as follows:

Straight setup, nothing fancy, all mechanical.

CO2 tank, 2.5 lbs (Good for about 2-3 full runs at the track) - $30
Stainless Steel hose - Trying for $25
    Fittings - $15
    Mechanical on/off valve - $5
Copper tubing for sprayer - $10

Ill be looking for probably 200-300psi on the hose so nothing crazy. Current idea is to mount the tank on the driveshaft hump right between the 2 back seats. Have the hose run right inside the console with the valve in the ashtray spot. From there run the hose through the firewall and over to the intercooler. It will be stealth except for the tank in the backseat. I could put the tank in the rear jack well but am leaning towards the backseat. I will bend my own sprayer with copper tubing. 2-300psi on the copper tube with pinholes should be fine. I will block off any direct route to the K&N air filter on the turbo inlet.

Still in the concept stage.....Any thoughts?

Find a cheap nitrous solenoid somewhere so you don't have a manual valve.

There are solenoids out there for like $30-$50 but like I said, if I cant make this project work for under $100 then it isnt worth the money.

If someone will sell one to me for like $20 I would buy it.

Having a switch would be nice......but unless I can find a cheaper one Ill be using a manual valve.

        Fondle, PM sent.

I would do methanol injection if anything, I have a new 150 PSI pump $50 plus shipping( (I went to a 250 PSI pump) and you should be able to buy the other stuff to have a methanol kit, I used my windsheild res. before for a tank holds 1 gal., now I have a trunk mount 1.5 gallon trunk kit. If your doing it for the track mght as well get a 10lb nitrous bottle and a hose and just spray it down after each run to cool it. But methanol injection will always be your best bet. No hptuners and running 18 PSI kind of dangerous. Do you scan it for KR and fuel trims? For methanol you don't need to tune it too much since you install the nozzel after the maf so its just cooling the charge into the cylinders.

            SSMS -

Correction to my previous statement. I did use HPT to tune my car. I had one of the leading GN guys in the country tune it for me at 10psi. He set all the fuel trims up close to redline and set the ignition map. He just lives 4 hours away from me so I cant just drive there whenever I want.

For now, I was going to install a knock gauge or use a scanner while I turn the boost up. There may not be much tuning but there will be some tuning required. I think I am just going to run on 94+ octane for now.

Good luck with it, just remember it doesn't pay to short cut on things esp. if your FI , whats ignition map? If using a progressive controller for methanol their shouldn't be hardly any if at all if you take a scan and then load that on the progressive tune and make your own progrssive tune for your setup, thats why I went with coolingmist I can hook my laptop in it and download and load parameters to my liking. I would just leave it at 10 PSI until you can get what you need to run 18 PSI safely, no contests going on thats why I have taken my time about a year and a half so far, but living in 120 degree temps during the summer can take out a engine quick esp. a turboed one, thats why I went with a methanol setup and wanted Manely valves so they don't break from too much heat , not PSI , since mines more of a DD, but been thinking off buying another 96'/97' Camaro RS as a DD and use mine for track then I might kick the GT35R up to 18 PSI + for the track. Your lucky you have 94 Octane , AZ only has 91, but I will get some 110 for the dyno and track when its finally finished. Becareful with yours, GN tunning is alittle different than our series II tuning.

                Re: CO2 Intercooler Sprayer Project

Thanks for the words man. You are right in not cheaping out on FI, but hell, $300 for a meth injection is a lot. My tuner tells me that I should be fine til at least 15 psi as long as I monitor knock. If I see knock then I will take that next step.

like to see a bottle for under 90 with siphon tube.

Ive decided to put the project on hold and put the money towards meth instead. I will repost in the future if I ever resurrect this project
