  • GTP manifold for passenger side?

I went to the junkyard today and grabbed the front manifold off of a 3.8 grand prix. I know it will work for the driver's side with a little modification, but what about the passenger side? All the bolt holes seem to line up, but I can't tell how close the exhaust ports are. Here's a pic of how it fits:

Would it be possible to cut the collector off and weld it on at a different angle? Seems like that and a little porting are all that are needed to make it work. Anyone know if it will work?

Re: GTP manifold for passenger side?

I first messed around with the GTP manifolds before just going to a under K member style setup since the extra heat would be a problem liviing in AZ. I still have 2 of the manifold pictured up top and then the drivers side with crossover pipe with extra 2" pipping thats rounded and different angles. Also have 2- 2" flex hoses left over and 2 3/8" 3800 flanges. For that to fit you need to enlongate the holes on the manifold so it mounts up correctly. Shoot me a PM if interested in my left over parts. Good luck

It looks like it might fit there. Honestly I've never tried. The ports will match up better in that position than they do on the drivers side. You need to port the drivers side when it's upside down.

If it's in that position and not interfering with your A/C or heater hose lines then you'd just need to make a cross over pipe from one manifold to the other and a turbo mounting flange.. then downpipe.. charge pipes ect.
I'll have to mock that up the next time I'm doing one.

I plan on getting rid of the A/C anyway, so that's not that big of a deal. The collector does come out at a weird angle though. Is it possible to cut and weld the manifold? It's made out of cast iron, right?
I already started on some other stuff, too. I welded a formed 2-1 collector to a t4 flange and smoothed the inside out a little. If this manifold works for both sides, I'll be like 90% done with the hot side.

YES, you can cut the cast iron flange off and easily weld a new flange on to make a complete set of turbo headers minus the crossover pipe.

I am glad that I saw this post, because I already welded a 38mm wastegate flange to mine. I did this with standard carbon steel wire and a MIG welder using CO2 and Argon gas mix. It was done at a muffler shop. No preheat and just let it cool in a bucket of sand or oil dry. Worked like a charm.

I am currently using the GTP header on the drivers side, and I have ordered two more GTP cast iron manifolds to (an extra incase I boo, boo) make the passenger side. Many thanks for inspiring me with an idea to do this. I already know that it will work. Take a look at this post.

We will finally have cheap DIY turbo headers for the V6's. I am surprised that this idea did not come up a long, long time ago.
I will post results next week once I have the finished product...
