Hey there everyone,

I've decided to finally boost my 96 bird, found the main parts i want to go with like:diamond forged pistons, L32 forged rods, ARP main, rod, and head studs. also will be upgrading to a 97 pcm. Just would like a bit more insight as to wat would be good injectors to go with, quality turbo. And did read on the 3800performance site that LS6 valve springs are not to be used on a 96 head is there something bout them i should know. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You'll want better heads at least 4791 casting , or buy some have them ported or do it yourself and have some Manely Serve duty valves installed ,, also a nice cam , with Clev. 77 bearings, Comp .105 pushrods,and either Comp modded retainers or Manely Modded retainers woul d be good, esp with set of heads reowrked for over a .600 lift I will be running COMP 1.7 Shaft mount PRO mag roller rockers, 130lb springs, double roller , machined oil front cover , oil PSI kit, 65LB injectors are good give you alot of room to grow, I'll be running a GT35r turbo .70 A/R housing .63 exhaust side with their GT wheel and 3" V band DP. intercooler at least 3" thick or 4" with alm. pipping. I have been running Diamond 9:5.1 forgred pistons and L32 rods, clev. 77 bearings for 7 years, right now I just have Comp 5/16th pushrods and 105 springs but have spare set of P/P heads with 1.9 / 1.57 manely serve duty valves , P/P intakes and polished out TB and a VS cam so it should flow pretty well with the GT35R( water cooled) which is about limited to 6000 RPMS and so is the cam and running 3.73 gears puts the shifts right where they should be on every shift. Hptuners is a must and also methanol injection is a good idea if in a hot climate which I have a progressive kit already hooked up ready to go. ARP head bolts and MLS gaskets would be a good idea also , no need for hem on the main and rod since the lower end is pretty stout. Good luck. What is your power goal?

Better to buy a low miles L26, head studs and good gaskets. And then spend all the money you saved on a nicer turbo set up. These motors make great power without touching the bottom end. I make 400whp and haven't opened the valve covers.

my power goal is at least 300 whp, not looking to work the head over too much just strengthen up the valvetrain, and p/p mostly, and were would be a good site for stronger valves, upgrade the oil pump, rockers etc... And wat would be a good fuel pump to upgrade to from stock. And wat do you mean a machined oil front cover?

No need. 300whp is achievable with a proper turbo set up and under 10psi.

NO NEED to change ANYTHING!!! Just a turbo kit, fuel pump and injectors. Your valvetrain will have no problems holding that kind of power.

Racetronix fuel pump is the best most reliable for an F-body, it's the only one that doesn't do a hack job in the tank! Make sure you also get a wiring harness for proper voltage.

Like I said, I haven't even opened the valve covers and I make 400whp and over 400wtq. But that is, in due, part to my awesome Cartuning turbo, I doubt you'd be able to see numbers without a comparable set up.

3800 oiling issues are from some of the passages, not from the oil pump itself. But honestly I have never really seen an oil issues with a 3800. Don't replace things that don't have issues.

They're aren't any issues for a 300whp 3800 unless you have a really crappy tune. The only issues that would arise would be because of lack of maintenance

I mean, Rubber line, cutting your bucket, no venturi(for 99+), plastic wiring instead of teflon and general improper installation that the other fuel pumps will have you do.

You wont need to do anything with the valvetrain unless you are installing a different camshaft or higher ratio rocker arms.

There are only factory replacements for the oil pump gear drive system. There are kits available that can increase oil pressure by using a heavier spring in the oil filter adapter if thats what you are after. I have also seen somewhat compelling arguments that the passages in the oil filter adapter itself should be ported for better oiling.

#36 injectors would probably handle it, but #42.5 injectors would cover a larger amount of boost if you wanted it. Your going to need hp tuners and a wideband to do your own tuning.

They have a oil PSI kit for like $20 that will increase your oil PSI to about 80 PSI , I know what your talking about for the oil mod, where pluging a passage and open up another to get more oil to the mains. But running the oil PSI mod should be fine, I installed my new PSI kit and machined oil cover on my spare front cover not hard to do at all , just Tq the oil PSI cover bolts back to 25ftLBS. I would just get the 65lb injectors since they cost almost the same as the 42LB injectors and won't have to worry about fuel issues. Valvetrain is a good idea , I would get the newer head castings 98' years + and then run 130LB springs , manely retainers , and Viton guides. Also get at least COMP 5/16 pushrods , or go with bigger ones Comp .105's and maybe shaft mount rockers for valvetrain harmonics.

If he only wants 300WHP 65's would be waaay to large. I'm still fine with 42's at 400. (I do have a Racetronix pump and rewire as well)

And i will be upgrading the cam and rockers as well trying to decide between 1.8, or 1.9's, and was also wondering with the bigger cam and different ratio rockers would i need to worry about cam timing at all or will that all work it self out wen i build it?

You only need a machined oil pump cover if you are running a double roller timing chain. This is so it doesnt rub the cover plate. You also only need a double roller if you are running #130 or heavier valve springs.

You arent going to be able to run 1.9 rockers with a high lift cam. It will put too much stress on the rocker bolt and eventually break it. You may be able to run 1.8's depending on the cam you go with.

Here's my advice! It comes from building 5x 3800 personally.

Fix any little problem that is wrong with it now, I mean ANYTHING! Drive it and don't worry about it, save up and buy a turbo kit and put it on the stock motor.(DO NOT PUT A BOOST CONTROLLER ON IT!!! We're car guys we can't control ourselves!) The car will be a blast to drive already stock with a turbo kit, plus it will remain very reliable (motor wise)

Now that you have a boatload of power and are beating on bolt-on LS1 cars, you may destroy your transmission or rear end or drive shaft. Fix them as they break, and when your tranny, rear and drive shaft are all built to handle 700hp (you always want some headroom!) you do a cam/heads and alky. Now you turn the boost up, and surprise you have 500-600whp, a drivetrain that can handle it and you didn't spend a year or longer waiting to boost your car because you didn't waste time/money on cam, heads, rockers, valve springs, timing chain, gaskets and tuning.

These cars haul *** on 10-14psi with a stock motor and a good turbo set up. If you're not happy then, mod the motor.
