  • Everything i need to do?

Hey you have all probably given me all the information im looking for in my turbo build but its scattered through out my threads i have posted and i was wondering if just on this one you can tell me everything i should do so that i do not blow the motor when its turbo.

Im talking about PCV mod, certain injectors (will GTP's work?) , fuel pump, valve cover breather, were to drain the oil from the return line of the turbo, how to run the boost controller and were to run the hoses for the bov and wastegate, what size tubing i should use,or anything else you might know that i don't. If you can tell me what to do and how to do it that would really help.

plus this will help probably out lot of other people when it comes time for their turbo build.

Starting the hot side next week i will post pics later

Well regardless that is the fuel pump you'll need.

GTP injectors are too small you need 42#'s.

You'll need to tap a fitting into your oil pan to get the return to be high enough, unfortunately you can't use the same hole like on the FWD W-bodies as the low oil level sensor.

You don't need a boost controller to start off with. Just use wastegate springs until you have 10# tuned up and figured out. Boost controllers are very, very simple to put in so don't stress about it.

All the running of lines depends on your set up, personally I use stuff like this:

        http://www.racetronix.biz/itemdesc.a...FHR-09&eq=&Tp=

Haven't had any problems with it.

I could make this post a lot longer but in the end I still believe to have a properly designed well working kit it's cheaper/easier to buy the cartuning kit.

Depends on how what turbo and amount of boost. In previous threads he mentioned running a small turbo and not running a lot of boost. 36's should be just fine. I ran them on my MPT70 up to 12 psi without any issues.

If your going to get 42lbers might a well get 60LBers(65lb) since they cost the same and are real easy to tune. Plus have alot of room to grow.

Well obviously yes it will depend on how much power the car is going to make, I just assumed that around 350-400whp would be the goal where you'd definetly need 42's.

Fuel economy will suffer, and on a home made kit with a pump and rewire I doubt he will ever max them. You can go pretty far on 42#'s I'd bet even to the point of taking a home built turbo kit to it's maximum.

Fuel economy doesn't suffer with bigger injectors aslong as you tune for them. My A/F is already setup also my injector pulse width idles the same as it did with stock or 36lb injectors. Right at 2.0 to 2.2 , fuel economy will suffer while in boost but thats it, I have gotten pretty good at tunning on these 3.8's. I have maxed the maf at 8LBs but tune for it in PE and it runs fine, just waiting for more couplers to get the pipping up somemore. Will dyno on 4-2 with some other F-bodies.

I think im just going to save up a little bit after the motor is built and buy a bigger turbo so i can run from 8-15 pounds easy.

I might come out to AZ if you would be willing to help tune my car. I can probably learn how just it would be nice to have someone help that knows what their doing.

I generally agree with you actually, but still feel having a properly sized injector is better. If you can't get 28mpg+ on the highway I feel that there is an economy tuning problem! Even my old GTP would get 32mpg+ on the high with shorter gears :)

SAVE YOUR MONEY. Stock 3800 will EASILY handle 20psi tuned properly. My car is bone stock on 14psi no problems. All you need to do is use good gaskets and head studs :)

I get what your saying , even with my 3.73 gears if I kept my right foot from going down I could get 28 mpg with my 60lb injectors with my VS cam and other mods. People look at the maf for tuning and I do it by injector pulse width for tuning ,esp. since I was N/A for so long not including nitrous. But FI your going to be pulling more fuel either froom injectors or in PE mode. I tuned mine first for injectors and then PE mode, been working out great so far.

What turbo will work well with your set up depends on the overall efficiency of your manifolds and downpipe.

Just get a cartuning kit, even if you pick up the non-intercooled version.
