What are your guys' opinions on Vortech Superchargers? Everything I see on here is either Powerdyne or Procharger, so I'm wondering if I'm missing something here... I've found a Vortech Supercharger that I can pick up for a pretty good price, so I'd like to know a little more before I make a move on it... Thanks!

Re: Vortech Superchargers
Yea, I would almost expect to have to make custom mounting brackets for any brand of supercharger, which isn't a big deal. What ever I can't fab up, I'm sure my dad would be able to help with since he's been building his own stuff since he could first drive.aka FreedStyle

Re: Vortech Superchargers
turbo is probably easier to fabricate considering you have a lot of manifolds to build off of. It just depends of how much power you would like to make. Boost is addicting and with a turbo it is very easy to get as much as you want, not so much with a supercharger.

Thats something I was thinking as well.
I'm not after any record setting boost levels or horsepower with this car. Now, if I were to pick up a second v6 Firebird or Camaro and had the money, then I might do the custom turbo setup of my dreams, but that would get really expensive in a hurry.
Since this is also my fair weather daily driver, my plans for this car are custom exhaust, and maybe a cam setup. That and the supercharger of course! Everyone I work with has a turbo car, so I want to be different lol. (I work at a performance parts dealer, so there's a lot of HP out in our parking lot)aka FreedStyle

Re: Vortech Superchargers
Either set up will be equally reliable if done correctly.
With the turbo you don't need to worry about changing pulleys and belt slip and there is no parasitic loss like there are with the S/C's.

Re: Vortech Superchargers
It's not placing any additional load onto the motor.
But yes it still does have some parasitic loss, but it's extremely low. Especially in a well designed turbo set up with a good turbo. It may be taking away 5hp maybe...
CSC's have less parasitic loss than a roots blower but still more than a turbo. And with the 3800's badass torque band and almost instant spool times with a turbo set up like mine there's no need for a CSC. Except it will sound like a jet, which is pretty cool lol.

Re: Vortech Superchargers
I really don't have the money to spend on that cartuning kit. I ended up picking up this supercharger though. It's a Vortech V-2 series, which brand new on their site is listed for over $2k, I got it for $400. We'll see how it does.
The way it's looking, I could get away with boosting my car for around $1500 (if my sources quoted me right).Last edited by CFreed11; 03-31-2011, 10:26 PM.aka FreedStyle
