  • Possible donor car

Sooo I was helping a friend get a grill guard for his truck today when I look up and see a 97 Buick Riviera S/C. That'd be an L67 right? And would I be better off just grabbing the SC and keeping my block or getting the entire engine? It's got a good bit of miles, like 150k so I'd most likely rebuild the SC anyway. I know I'd have to get some good fab work done, but is that really that hard to do? And would the tuning have to be don professionally or can I get some tips and do it with HPT? Anyone that's done this before, please help out! I want to get this done before winter's over.

the l67 has a much stronger bottom end has lower compression over the fbody 3.8. also the fwd cars had roller lifters while the fbody version had flat top. my is a 97 and when i first did the swap i drove the car around with a 97 gtp computer and it worked fine. mph where way off since my car was 5 speed and gtps are all auto and 2.9X gears. u can use the gtp fuel injections and fuel rail like i did and u need the gtp heads since the injectors go on them. and we have a sticky on the forum of an m90 swap check it out under force induction.

So could I just take the engine and all? Will it bolt up to a T-5? I've got a 2000 Camaro..

yes engune bolts right in, everything bolts right on fly and everything. i have a 97 rs 5 speed we have everything the same minues the electric tb. but with a simple tune it will work. 04 and up 3800 supercgarged come electric tb.

everything bolts on. only thing that has to be done is the welding of the intake manifold. the l67 has a gen 3 Eaton and is much easier to work with then a gen 5 that i have. ur stock tb will work fine and ull be able to daily drive the car after the swap without the belt on till u get it tuned.

I was planning to do a top swap with an M90, but it was way more work then what I wanted to tackle, thats why I decided to do a Powerdyne build. I have a complete L67 that Im using for the bottom end, as 97RSS said, its a strong bottom end and will handle the boost alot better.

So it would be better to just build a new intake for the M90, and drop it right in, rather than going trying to drop the M90 onto my L36? And would a t5 be able to handle the power? I'd probably end up getting a smaller pulley for it anyway, and hopefully some internals while I'm there. Are L67 internals strong enough to hold, let's say 12-15lbs of boost? Since stock they're under like 5 right?

                  Re: Possible donor car

Either way its going to be a challenge, and requires the intake to be modded, but having a stronger bottom end would be better. As for the T5, if your just going to swap in a stock L67 it probably would hold longer the if you modded the L67 ex. cam, pulley, ect ect, but modded it probably wouldnt hold, but either way Id look into getting it built.

                    Re: Possible donor car

The intake really just doesn't seem like it would be THAT hard... besides that, what is there to do? It's a basic swap at that point right?

                      Re: Possible donor car

The hardest part of building the intake is going to be cutting/milling the M90. Well, your going to need a PCM from an L67 car, Im not sure about the fuel stuff, might need to put L67 fuel rails in cause IDK if L36 and the L67 rails are different and tuning, lots and lots of tuning.

he has an electronic tb, his best bet is using the stock comp. once the intake is fabbed everything bolts right in.

So basically if I swap the L67 in I just need to Fab the intake, maybe a new fuel pump and grab the PCM off the car?

Looking at pricing, I can get the entire engine, harness and pcm for >300

Just talked to the people at RMCR, looks like I got somewhere to fab up my intake ;D Would my stock manifolds fit an L67 or would I need headers to start? And Motor mounts, I know the 67 in a GP at least is mounted on the top of the block, do they work out right? And how many accessories are compatible?
