  • boost activated cut out, or electric cutout?

i have a 3" down pipe but then it turns into 2.5 piping.. about a foot of witch i used a air hammer and flattened out because i was scraping alot. now what i want to do is run an open down pipe. i'm just not sure what route to take. i was thinking of just running a waste gate off of my downpipe so that whenever i hit boost it opens. even if its only 60mm that should relieve pressure big time. but i've also been reading that having no or low post turbo exhaust pressure will make the turbo spool quicker. so what sounds like a better idea. DMH makes a nice looking electric cut out with a 4 year warranty. for 190.00. or i could get a 4psi ebay wastegate for 70$

Cutout. 100%. I've got a 3", and it is amazing, but sometimes you just want it to shut up...

I don't know if I would fully recommend DMH Performance. Maybe I had a bad deal with them or something but my experience was not great. If you want the details let me know. Id be glad to share.

^ Agreed. Mine is actually off the car because it leaks out the gate, after 8 months.

how bad is the leak at the gate? enough to bother you with nasty exhaust leak noises?
bad lanz hpe has one for 140 with a 5 year warranty, pretty sure that doesn't cover the seal though. http://www.badlanzhpe.com/po.php?cPath=23&pID=31

I say summit or jegs a large company and make sure you.get full warranty because even they can fail but better constructed. I had exhaust leak from it and it was noticeable if outside the car with and without a load. Also, I had it go out on me after a few months so I called for warranty it took me over a week and a half just to contact them because they never answer the phone (I had most luck around 12-3pm MST). After that I had to pay shipping there, took a week for repair (made of items that people had replaced. Like the body was clean when I returned and they sent one with a scraped up body and cuts everywhere) then a week to send it back, I asked if they could do expedited shipping back and they said only if I pay for it. That was like $100 so I said no and they didn't trybto accommodate me at all.

Overall I would give them a 4 out of 10 for the whole from buying it in the beginning to when I sold it on craigslist.

i ordered the badlanzhpe unit. never looked into qtp. but this one has a 5 year warranty and was 145 shipped. so, i'm hoping for the best. i'll post pics/vids up in my turbo thread probably.

Re: boost activated cut out, or electric cutout?

i had that same exact bad lanz cutout in your link and after 4 months the motor that actuates the flap fell off one day on the road and i lost it...the motor or the cutout never got hit or scraped..just decided to fall off one day with no warning...yes there is warranty but it does not cover that...in there warranty it states:

"THEY ARE NOT INTENDED TO BE OPENED AND CLOSED UNDER ANY DRIVING CONDITIONS OR HIGH RPM’S. THE RESULT WILL BE GEARMOTOR DAMAGE WITH EXHAUST LEAKS AND A "RATTLING" SOUND COMING FROM THE EXHAUST CUTOUT. FAILURE TO OPEN OR CLOSE WITH ENGINE OFF OR AT ENGINE IDLE WILL VOID THE WARRANTY."

So when exactly are we supposed to use it? i think thats what happened to mine thats why the motor fell off (vibration) and i only used mine about 20 times. Also there replacement motor costs about half the price of the kit. Its a pretty good kit, no complaints there except for the motor part.. im planning on purchasing the replacement motor in the future and ill be installing it with high temp silicone to absorb the vibration and also use thread lock on whatever bolts/screws that hold the motor to the valve body.
