  • 2 step colder plugs?

is anybody running 2 step colder plugs, say ngk tr7's? i've been doing a lot of research and i know that. the downsides of a colder plug are a minute loss in low rpm power and if the combustion chamber doesn't get hot enough they will not clean themselves, carbon deposits will form...
i've read to go a step colder for 70 hp, but i've also read a step colder for 100hp
i believe i'm probably putting down about 140 more than stock at 8psi. based on vehiclces i've competitively driven against. i'd like to run more timing if i can. i'm only running about 12 at max boost and still get 1-2 degrees of KR at times. i keep going back and forth on wanting to run water\meth also.. the thing i like most about water meth is that it would improve gas mileage. if i do that tr6 should be fine.

Hope that helps!!! Although not application specific for a turbo 3800 some good info from Mr.Overkill.

TR7's are a good choice if your going to run more boost, can always try and see how they run.

stock boost levels - run stock heat range to 1 range colder
9-10 psi boost - run 1 full range colder (3.4 with exhaust mods)
10-11 - run 1-2 ranges colder (3.4 with no exhaust mods)
11-12 run 2 full ranges colder (3.25 with exhaust mods)
12+ - run 2-3 ranges colder. (3.25 or smaller when applicable)

        what are the 3.25/3.4? pulleys?

after reading this.... my thoughts are i probably don't really need to run a colder plug because the motors probably have much higher iat's but i'm also wondering how efficient these blowers are... like how much air they are actually digesting at those boost amounts. or would that only depend on the motor displacement... my head hurts:work:

When it comes down to it, the plugs are so cheap you can try a set that is 2 ranges colder or stick with one range colder. But IIRC a stock GTP plug is already 1 range colder than a GT plug.

so when they go a step colder than a stock plug it would be like me going 2 steps colder than a stock plug?
