This may sound stupid, but I'm going to ask because I don't know. Will my insurance rates increase because of a custom turbo setup? I would assume so, but maybe some of you who have turboed your car can tell me. Also, to anyone who has done a major modification, i.e. heads, cam, ect; did your insurance increase or will they not care as long as it's still a v6? Sorry if these questions sound stupid, but I need some answers.

a V6 is a V6 is a V6, as long as it's the same engine you can do whatever you want to it, including modding the engine itself. Now if it's a V8 swap, I think you're supposed to tell them. With either option, they wont cover the turbo/mods, they usually only give you bluebook value. I do know that some companies have like an extra column for mods though, when I looked up motorcycle insurance they asked if the motorcycle had $x amount of mods done that I'd want covered also. Dunno how it goes with cars though, guess you'd hafta ask the company. Maybe if you dont want them to know it's your account, just ask them in general if it increases insurance, rather then looking for a specific amount

Thanks for the help. I may head in the forced induction direction instead of a v8 swap now. Insurance is the only reason I have the v6 anyways.

what my agent told me, even with a v8 swap, is that you can raise the value of the car to cover the mods you have done in case of a payout, which will affect your rates slightly, but wont change vehicle classifications on you (ie firebird to trans am or grand am to gt package) the only thing you have to watch for is state DOT hazard classifications, like falling in a street rod (open cockpit, lacking safety equipt, etc.) or swamp truck (3' lift w/ monster tires), where the vehicle becomes a potential hazard to you and other drivers.

no increase here but did let them know so the coverage covers the mods too even if you dont let them know about the mods they will argue but still pay

my agent said with receipts they cover anything.

even if i bought a 94 mustang, swapped in a 351, they would still charge for the stock V6 mustang...

i didn't have the time to do a swap, so i bought a car with a v8 instead, but that is how my conversation went with my agent.
