  • Installed Trans+

Okay...I installed the Translator tonite, and afterwards decided to run my OBDII scanner just for S&G. It's reading a P0102 which is "Mass Air Flow Sensor Circuit Input Low". If I totally remove the translator from the circuit obviously the code goes away. All my Spark and Maf settings are at base 0. The four Mode switches are 1.on 2.on 3. on 4.off Also, when at idle giving it a quick rev, it lags almost to the point of stalling. Once at a higher RPM it seems to run fine. I haven't driven it yet...just let it sit at idle in the garage. I don't want to screw anything up...not that I may not have already since during the install I accidentally reversed the connector on the Mas sensor. I know, I know WHAT A DUMBA** It only ran like that for no more than a few seconds and I shut it down realizing there was a problem. Surely in that short of a time no damage could have been done to the sensor? Any ideas of what's going on? I would think that with all settings at base 0, it would act like the translator isn't even there. Maybe I am a Dumba** and just don't realize that the purpose of the Trans+ is to change the settings and not leave them at 0. Can someone fill me in?

    :( PLEASE??

Hey Kahouna, If you fried the MAF sensor, then I can send you my old one. I am not using it because I now have a blow through MAF from ZZP. I actually have two of them. I hope that you did not fry the TRANSLATOR. Damn man that is just bad
all around. Tell me if you remove the Tranlator from the MAF and plug back in the factory harness if the car will run properly. If this is the case then yes, you fried the Translator. Get back with me ASAP after you make some findings. I am sorrry that this has happened to you bro. Heck we are both so close!!!

Please make sure that the diptswitches are set at the proper level. Make sure you have the 6 cylinder switch set instead of the 8. If everything else checks out then you probably damaged the Translator. SHEEEEETTTTTTT!!!!!! Call up the MFG and tell them that it is not working properly. Send it back in and they will either repair it or replace it. Either way it will not cost you anymore other than time! Just don't tell them that you connected it improperly.

By the way did you set the ignition advance to + 4
degrees. I know it makes a big difference in the way the car feels. Remember that you want to retard the ignition once you decide to get boosted by - 6 to 8 degrees.

Well, I called Mike at the Mfg. and he said that it doesn't sound like anything is wrong with the Translator. Apparently I have it set on "old style PCM" not the new one. He said that they set the values to a V-8 base code....NOT A V-6. Imagine that. It's just going to take some playing with to get it down right.
No, I didn't adjust the ignition yet. I wanted to make absolutely sure I didn't jack anything up before I go changing the timing and fuel. He said even if I did do something wrong, just to send the Translator back and they'd take care of it. EXCELLENT customer service in my book!!

I know..you still want to reach through the and slap me, huh Chris?

Are you kidding me? That is great news. I wish that I had someone guide me before I made some mistakes with my car. I cut up a perfectly good set of Pacesetter Headers that cost me $200 bucks
one day trying to make my own turbo headers. It cost me $600 bucks to replace my differential because I paid a "shadetree" mechanic $60.00 to put the pinion seal in. He tightened the nut down too tight. Just a couple of examples of what happens when you do stupid **it! You are A-OK in my book bro. Hey, have you notice how nice the Admins are to lock all posts that deal with the STS kits? We can't get any respect around here. What is with all the haters anyway?
