• 2.90 pulley installed on powerdyne

I have had my new custom grooved pulley on now for about a month and I have noticed a big difference. But I am having problems with belt slipage when I first start the car then it goes away after a few minutes of driving. The belt seems to be really tight and I am a little afraid to tighten it much more.

Also, I haven't really got to see how much of a difference the new pulley has made because I have been dealing with exhasut issues. My cat converter
went bad and also the o2 sesnor after the cat was bad, according to the diagnostics guy. I was throwing a po420 , and so I changed the cat with a magnaflow carsound cat and changed the o2 sensor. Then I drove it a few miles and the light came back on took it to get it scanned and it said the same thing (po420 catylst below threshold bank 1).

So, I don't know what is going on. All I know is the car is bogging down sometimes and the fuel pressure guage needle bounces when this happens.

you have to tighten the living SH*T out of those belts..when i had my 6psi kit on..the belt was like a highly tightened guitar string man..that was the only way i could see 6psi..and made any squeeking from belt slipage go away..if you're having problem with slipage it can be tightened more..as far as the cat..its hard for me to ever give advice on these cuz mines been hollow for like 2 years and has never thrown a code..you may want to invest in an adjustable fuel pressure regulator..just a thought

How do you like your sc? I'm going to get one soon. THought I'd ask ya. What year is your car? Was the install hard? Have you tried the power wrap yet? Might help your slippage problem. You re-rout the belt to get a 180 deg. wrap on your sc pully. have to shave a little off the oil filter housing. I think it's called the John_D power wrap. Do a search here for power wrap, theres alot posted on it. Where did you get the grooved pully? Thanks! Have a good one Jessica

Dangerous, why did you ditch your sc kit? Not good?

Love the super charger, my car is a 2002, the install was pretty easy and after you have done it once you can pull it out and put it back in pretty quick. I have done the JohnD wrap and never had problems with slipage until I went to the smaller pulley, that is why you get the custom grooved pulley from (ASP Racing), it helps with the slipage. I ordered my kit new from RK Sport about 8 or 9 months ago. Don't regret it and have loved it ever since. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. ;)

it was pretty good even at the 6psi level..the problem was that i was running a dry nitrous setup with it..both power adders were utilizing the stock injectors to add fuel..i was maxing out the injectors and running VERY lean..so i decided to go one way or the other..since juice was a lot less expensive and gave me just as much if not more of a gain..i went with juice..NOW that i run a wet kit i could put that blower on and run both..definitely hit 12s..but im happy in the 13s for now..and i just dont have the dough right now..i definitely miss the constant power and the sound of my bov though

Regarding slippage on startup:
Have you tried turning on and off your climate controls (ac/fans) when this happens? Sometimes engaging/dis engaging AC clucth will stop pulley squeel on just about any car at start up.

You have headers, right? I am surprised you have not been throwing exhaust codes already. I am a little surprised that your rear 02 sensor would be bad. i guess it is possible, though. But the rear 02 does is not used by PCM to control fuel mixture...it is just a sniffer for emissions. It might be time for a sim...or tuning software.

Does the o2 sensors in the headers control the fuel mixture and if they do and one or both are malfuntioning would that throw the cat below threshold code. When I got my diagnostic report back it said bad cat and damaged rear o2 so I just assumed it wasn't working but maybe it was. Maybe the tech who worked on my car does not know what he is talking about because he also tried to tell me the cat on the car was aftermarket and I argued with him that is was stock because I bought the car new and never changed it and he still did not believe me.

The only time I heard squeek was when I had the original Vector Performance set up. The JohnD helped tremendously with the slippage problem plus the advice that 98Greenglow gave about grooved pulley.

There is a big difference between a 3.1 and 2.9. You really feel more bottom end power. Right now I am looking into getting a slightly bigger idle pulley to even wrap around more. But I think I will do this if I ever move up to 2.7.

If I do go for the 2.7 I will definately be intercooled (air to water).

Uncharged, what type of belt are you using?

The Gates belt slips quite a bit and once it heats up and contracts it tightens up like there's no tomorrow. It does that because the idler pulley doesn't flex like our standard. The SC idler just sits still.

Being too tight doesn't mean good either. It can cause alot of stress on the other accessories and quicker wear and tear on belt and you'll find it slipping again even more. I got 8 or so Gates belt over the past 7 years to prove that. Only a couple of years ago did I switch to Gator or Dayco. And it was alot better in gripping and less wear and tear.

Dayco Poly Cog belt here, definately don't over tighten the belt. You'll have better results leaving it a little loose.
