  • Ideas for converting Powerdyne for Whisper Lid AI

Guys, I'm trying to come up with a solution for modifying a 1998+ RKSport Powerdyne setup to use the CAI/Whisper lid as its air source. The blower is not intercooled, and I don't like the idea of it sucking through an open filter in the engine bay, especially right between the engine and the radiator.

Here are some pictures of the air box setup on my car:

Now, I know Ironman24 (thanks for the help by the way) is doing this with his setup, but he also has the pre 98 throttle body which leaves a heck of alot more room to work with.

I know that there is no way I'll be able to get the intake tubing from the output of the lid, down to the blower, then back up to the TB. Basically there would be more than 7" of tubing between the Whisper Lid outlet and the TB, and if you look at those pics you can see there is nowhere near 7" of room. (And that's not including the space taken up by the tubing bending down and back up).

Right now the only thing I can think of is to take the lid off and cut it almost flush with the box (meaning hack the entire outlet part off), then relocate the AIT sensor to the side or top of the box (will it get enough flow?) and find some way to seal a connection between the head unit intake tubing and the lid.

    Any other suggestions?

when we installed johns powerdyne we used his whisper lid and CAI setup... in though whisper and out of charger to TB, no problem

Really? What year car was it? I don't see how its possible given that amount of space?

I'm the very first one to do this. There's nothing to it. Just take it to an exhaust shop and in my case, we used a thin gauge tube and 2 flexible tubes to make an effective connection .

Originally I got this idea from a guy who used the whisper lid and ram air kit on his LS1 Vortech with an aftercooler. He said it better than FIPK. I couldn't agree more.
