Electric Supercharger Response......DONT LOCK!

yes, it appears that with all the other stuff you need (AFC, FMU, 200amp alt., batteries, relays, etc etc.) its not cost effective, but it sure as hell looks like its for real.

Hes been writtin up in Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords, had his chargers installed on 1000+hp Saleen mustangs, and several other credentials.

It gets locked because electric superchargers are gay. You shouldnt even bother talking about them. And I wouldnt even think this would be considered forced induction. So it will probly get locked here to. Maybe try general tech or do a search and you will see this has been covered several times by many different e-chargers.

Nobody here is all that OPEN to change...so instead of looking at this NEW electric supercharger theyd rather LOCK the thread than be wrong about anything. Never realizing that EVENTUALLY somone is going to come up with one that works..and WHY..because just like what happens HERE..people say it CANT be done. I dont see it being very efficient for the cost and the window of usage...but hey Im a N2O guy so whatever.

A) Forcing air into the engine by means of an electric driven impeller. How is that not forced induction?

B) Yes, electric superchargers have never worked in the past. But the idea is still there. And this guy had the balls to make one that forced 5.5psi of air into an engine

C) Sceptics from the 3.8 mustang site tried it, got a ride in one of the dudes test vehicles, and said it actually impressed them.

D) Right now its definately not cost effecient. You need a lot of extra stuff to add onto it.

E) Maybe before you censor everything that "may" have been brought up, you should check out what it is first before going "oh jesus, electric superchargers. they dont friggin work for crap. this guy is an idiot."

F) pgriffith, with over 2600 posts and you being member #5XX, id assume youd be a little more open to a new idea, rather than brushing it off. Disappointing. Maybe you should follow some links that are posted. You may learn something new. But after this post:

It looks very much like your typical small displacement eaton without the nose-drive attached. Those electric motors attached at the front (is that three i see?) would have to be mighty if it will work. Then again, they are not suggesting running it all of the time...

In theory, it could work. But I don't think it is terribly useful. You would have to charge your aux. batteries and then use up all of that power in one or two track passes. The stock alternator would have to be out of the loop during the passes so that it would not draw power from your elec. system. Then when the pass is done, you could switch over to charge mode (while in the staging lanes). This is interesting...

However, when not in use (and it cannot be used full time because it would just wreck your electrical system) the engine would have to pull through the blower--meaning extra load, and less hp for everyday use. Wonder what kind of havok it would play one reliability!

At least it isn't a boat exhaust fan. :rolleyes:

I read a couple threads. It is an Eaton blower. The small one is an Eaton 62 run by 3 6hp starter motors. The larger one that the creater is recommending for the Stangs is an M90 that will be powered by 3 8hp motors.

And in reality that is exactly how it works. They recommend replacing the alternator though.

I believe he said that the kit comes with a check valve that bypasses the supercharger when it is not running/activated.

While many people here do not like the idea of an electric supercharger I honestly love the idea. The whole concept has some great merits if it designed correctly. The biggest of which is zero parasitic loss.

Potentially IF designed correctly this could be superior to a conventional supercharger or turbo it could meet the following

1. Zero Parasitic Loss
2. No Added Backpressure
3. Instant "spool" to full boost.

While an electic supercharger has yet to meet these specs neither has a mechanical and with conventional superchargers and turbos one of three goals will not be met as by there design it is inherently impossible. Electric superchargers provided a stout electrical system would have zero parasitic loss, they would cause no backpressure in the exhaust as they do not have an impeller to spin, and electric motors have a perfectly flat torque curve and could in theory apply full boost as soon as they are activated. Please don't flame me on this as I am a bit of an engineering dork and see this as a perfect solution to a problem given somebody takes the time to develop this mythical forced induction monster.

Me too, I think an Electric could be made that would provide the same 6-8 psi boost but it would have to be run on 120-240v and trying to convert a system to that would be hell. If you were going for a middle-range I guess you could hook up smaller batteries in series to provide short bursts of power to a 120-240v electric supercharger, it would sort of be like NOS except all you need to do to refill it is plug it into a charger when you get home. I'm pondering different theories myself for a more long-term direct replacement for a supercharger/turbo to take on the same roll as them (IE: not be a short term thing, allow for sustained continous boost).

THis kit supposedly can recharge in a few minutes with just the car running.

Cool idea, cause you could use it while running at the track, and recharge in the staging lanes.

just kinda sucks that it can only be used for 15 secs. Plus the gains for the price just aren't worth it considering what else is available out there.

car would feel like pos while the blower wasnt' spooled and sucking through it.
