I read John D's idea the other day and decided to do it on the basis that it made sense............................................. .................................................. .................................................. ............It took roughly 3 hours to take out the charger ,redo everything and put it back together. The procedure was very simple. I just changed the loop. The part that took 2 of the 3 hours was fileing down the oil bracket. Sorry I cant remember the correct name of that oil can holder at this time that sits directly beneath the powerdyne......................................... .................................................. .................................................. .............................. ..............................RESULTS...Keep in mind that my car can only get about 3, 1/4 mile acelleration runs before it starts having massive misfires and wont run for sh*t.............................................. .................................................. .................................................. .............................. ............................OK ... Now to the results......The first run resulted in a max of 5 psi through 1st 2nd and 3rd gear.............................................. .................................................. .................................................. .............The second run resuled in 5psi in first gear, 6 psi in 2nd gear and 6 psi in 3rd gear.............................................. .................................................. .................................................. ...............The third run resulted in 6 psi in first gear, 6 psi in 2nd gear and 7 psi in 3rd gear..........Then the machine gun like misfire started attacking........Im getting a Dynotune this Saturday so hopefully all problems will be fixed soon.............................................. .................................................. .................................................. .............................. ..................................Now I know alot of you are saying BIG DEAL.....Greenglow always runs 7 psi or more sense he machined his pully, and your absolutely right...........EXCEPT FOR ONE THING............................................. .................................................. .................................................. .............................. ................................THE 5 psi I ran on my first run COMPLETELY BLEW MY MIND!!!!!!!!!!!Im serious ....Just that 5 PSI WAS AWESOME . The patented JohnD powerdyne rap did exactly what I was hopeing for..........It caused the powerdyne to charge up much quicker........................................... .................................................. .................................................. ..............What Im trying to say is THROTTLE RESPONSE was unbeleavable. I WAS EXTREMELY IMPRESSED by how quickly the boost came .IT WAS DEFIENTLY THE BEST FEELING IVE EVER HAD IN MY POWERDYNE......................................... .................................................. .................................................. ............This is why I think it works so well....................With the regular belt rap us powerdyne owners have were probaly getting roughly 35-45% pully coverage from our belt...............Even with a machined belt your still not covering any more area. Your just getting a better grip on what you got............................................... .................................................. .................................................. ..............Now with the JohnD powerdyne rap your getting roughly 60-70 % pully coverage (correct me if Im wrong JohnD) Thats alot of belt to pully contact.......So the second you slam that pedal your seeing boost, the second it changes gears your seeing boost. I just cant really describe it but it just felt SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE OLD WAY............................................... .................................................. .................................................. .............................. ..........................I think the best way to descibe it would be in DYNO terms. Before using John d's method I was seeing 7 psi lately. After using his method I saw 7 psi. Well If there had been a before and after Dyno the pre johnD would go up slowly through the chart and peak at the 7 psi mark on the far right side of the page.............................................. .................................................. ...........The next Dyno after using the JohnD method would Show a peak of 6-7 psi almost at the far left of the page and stay that high all the way to the right. The power would just cover much more area when compared to the old way............................................... .................................................. .................................................. .............................. ..............................When I conducted this test my belt (gates) had 3/4 of an inch of play. I beleave that I will see more boost with this setup in the future... I will conduct three more runs toworrow and follow up with boost numbers and my impressions....................................... .................................................. .................................................. .............................. ...........................SO FAR I HIGHLY RECCOMEND THE JOHND POWERDYNE RAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cool! :D
Makes me want to get mine on the road that much more...

I will be done with school in 2 weeks (finals next week). THE DAY I GET HOME I am doing "the John D. mod". No doubt about it.
Also, I think I will get my pulley machined while I have the supercharger out.
Watch out everybody, here come some fast times! All gone :(<br />Best ET ever: 14.3 (I think)<br />----------------------------<br />Check out my site for exhaust clips, burnouts, and pictures, and the supercharger throttle body mod.<br /><a href=\"http://www.geocities.com/net_addict/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Click on the Firebird</a>

guys i noticed something last night and it made me think of this mod.
if you get a chance, look at the picture of the pully setup on the '03 cobras. those bastards have like 75% of the pully covered by the belt. its sick.
good ideas on the belt wrap.

Laron, you're the man. You always the first to do it. When we were talking about putting grooves on the pulley, none of us did it, but you dared it first. And now this. Good work! Sorry to hear about your car. Hopefully you get that bug out.
John D., thanks for passing the info. I plan on updating to 9 psi. someday, this new belt wrap would be better.
I'm going to do this too the next time I do my oil change.
What type and how are you guys filing it down? Electric or by hand.
Thanks

Fired it up last night. Ran really rich, set off the smoke detector in the garage, even with the door open. I converted it to an LT1 maf sensor out of an f-body. So I need to do some tuning with the maft.
Even though it was running so rich, I had to at least take it to the end of the cul-de-sac and back. Saw 5 psi on it. (couldn't really get on it very much in the subdivision...) Once I get the basic tuning done on it, I'll take it out on the road and play with it a little.
The new belt loosened up quite a bit from that short drive. Hopefully that is just because it is a new belt.
As far as how to clearance that oil filter extension, I used a small sanding drum on a dremel. A file might be safer though... I used a file, took over 2 hours of fileing PITA.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I think that proves it works . Most people dont see over 3-4 psi there first time out. JohnD is already seeing 5 psi.He he.I honestly didnt see 5 psi till about a month later.........It was hard to even maintain 5-6 pounds before I machined the pully............................................. .................................................. .................................................. .............................. .........................................Theres not really much to report except that the car has been maintaining 5-7 pounds. HOWEVER, I just noticed that I had ATLEASTE an inch of play in the belt. I just tightened it down to the recommended 1/2 inch, Ill post the results of this as soon as I take a test drive. Later.Powerdyne 98 a4 convert<br /><br /> stock 16.6 @ 86 <br /> <br /> 6 lbs boost 15.1 @ 90 <br /> <br /> 04 A4 2.73 geared white Corvette Coupe<br /> <br /> stock- 13.5 @ 103 <br /><br />LS6 conversion-13.1 @ 107 <br /> <a href=\"http://members.cardomain.com/greenglow98\" target=\"_blank\">http://members.cardomain.com/greenglow98</a> ( pics of intercooled powerdyne)

Well I took it on a test drive after tightening the belt to the recommended 1/2 inch play-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------The results were very impressive..............I saw 7 psi in first gear. In second gear I saw 8 psi. I couldnt make it to third. To dark to go that fast on a narrow road. He he. I did another acelleration run and saw EIGHT POUNDS in FIRST GEAR!!!!!!! Then I got 9 pounds in second gear. Couldnt do third again cas the machine gun started attacking and my SES light started flashing ( man I hope that the dynotune this saturday fixes everything so I can get to the track) Well Im very excited........................................... .............Ive never seen first gear grab like that before(especialy with the gates belt)------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Well those numbers wont mean anything unless I can keep them without touching the tensioner. Ill post how it's holding after a few days.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------John D. Post some more reults..... It seems like the boost gets better as the belt heats up. How tight is your belt? Measure the tightness between the atanator pully and the far right cranck pully directly beneath the throttle body. I had over an inch of play there ....................Tighten to a safe yet firm 1/2 inch and enjoy the goodness.Powerdyne 98 a4 convert<br /><br /> stock 16.6 @ 86 <br /> <br /> 6 lbs boost 15.1 @ 90 <br /> <br /> 04 A4 2.73 geared white Corvette Coupe<br /> <br /> stock- 13.5 @ 103 <br /><br />LS6 conversion-13.1 @ 107 <br /> <a href=\"http://members.cardomain.com/greenglow98\" target=\"_blank\">http://members.cardomain.com/greenglow98</a> ( pics of intercooled powerdyne)

See I told you!!!!!!!! Thats great news...As long as it stays above 6 then it's all good. Im personaly about to order a 9 lb pully. I figure that will get us lows of 7 and highs of 10--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I went and got my DYNO TUNE yesterday. Keep in mind that I didnt go there to get numbers but to fix whatever was wrong with my car............................................... .................................................. .................................................. .............................. ..................................With my fmu hooked up the best I could get was a 180 HP on 6 psi. They said the reason my numbers were so low was because Im getting 37% more fuel then my car needs. My fuel pressure was at 95 during these runs. Then they dynoed it again with 6 psi but this time with my FMU disconnected. This time I pulled 207 rwhp ase corrected. They said I could also do much better but now my car is running way to lean with my fuel pressure only at 55 at wot.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------So I was like yea sure it will do better but it's not like I can fix that right now, so I tightened down my belt to get 10 psi.........180 rwhp again cas they hooked back up he FMU. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Well 207 rwhp sucks but Im not disapointed..... I went there knowing my cars not running right. They confirmed that Im running 37% rich, that Im having multiple misfires on plugs 3 and 5 and somthing about my ratio being a 16-1 instead of a recommended 12-1 ( I forget what that one was referring to) They said that considering all that a 207 from only 6 pounds was pretty good . ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------Im considering that my starting point. Im buying a 4-1 ratio vortech FMU, dayco belt and a 9 lb pully. They also said it sounded like the noise Im hearing may be my bearings. I disagree but while I change the pully I might as well change that two.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------Man the dyno tune was really cool and it only cost me 75$ since they couldnt fix anything. I think Im hooked on that more than racing the car now. Well atleaste I have a clear path of what needs to happen and the john D power rap didnt fail me once yet, Im still seeing a minimum of 6 psi on it.Powerdyne 98 a4 convert<br /><br /> stock 16.6 @ 86 <br /> <br /> 6 lbs boost 15.1 @ 90 <br /> <br /> 04 A4 2.73 geared white Corvette Coupe<br /> <br /> stock- 13.5 @ 103 <br /><br />LS6 conversion-13.1 @ 107 <br /> <a href=\"http://members.cardomain.com/greenglow98\" target=\"_blank\">http://members.cardomain.com/greenglow98</a> ( pics of intercooled powerdyne)

I recommend getting the recalibration kit with the fmu, too. It only costs like 20-30 bucks, and it comes with all the different ratios. This way, you can experiment with 4:1, 6:1, 8:1, and so on, until you think you are doing the best.

I just went out and bought the dayco belt (much better results with this belt TRUST ME) And check this out............ My fuel pressure is now 70psi instead of 100 psi............................................... .................................................. .................................................. .......How did I do it so quick???????????????????? I didnt order a new FMU or anything like that......I had an idea that actualy worked!!!!!!!!!!!! The line that goes from the throttle body to the fmu carries the air that tells the FMU how much boost the charger is making. My line was always carrying 6-9 pounds of air from the charger to the FMU. The FMU wich is the universal 8-1 ratio would then add 8 pounds of fuel for every pound it received from the charger. You can imagine that 8x6 is 48+ the 50 Im already getting from the fuel pump equals boost of 100 or so. TOO RICH (totaly killed my dyno). So my idea was to make the fmu think the charger is not sending as much boost as it is---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------I started off by cutting the line as close to the fmu as possible and adding a "T" connector in between the two lines that I cut. I thought this would alow some of the air to vent off while the rest would go into the fmu. What actualy happenned was that ALL the air vented of and my fuel pressure never passed 60 psi.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------I was pretty stumped at that point but I had another idea. If the air would all vent out of the T opening then I would make it harder for it to vent so some air would have to find it's way to the fmu. So I put a PCV valve on the open end of the T connecter and WALLAH.... Im now seeing exactly 70 fuel psi at 6 pounds of boost. ME SO HAPPY............................................. .................................................. ..I hope Iron man see's this.....Powerdyne 98 a4 convert<br /><br /> stock 16.6 @ 86 <br /> <br /> 6 lbs boost 15.1 @ 90 <br /> <br /> 04 A4 2.73 geared white Corvette Coupe<br /> <br /> stock- 13.5 @ 103 <br /><br />LS6 conversion-13.1 @ 107 <br /> <a href=\"http://members.cardomain.com/greenglow98\" target=\"_blank\">http://members.cardomain.com/greenglow98</a> ( pics of intercooled powerdyne)
