figured I'd share what I've been up to the past two months.
swapped a transverse fwd turbo eclipse engine into my 93 sonoma. It's using a toyota celica/supra 5 speed rwd transmission with a custom bellhousing and a lot of fabricated parts blah blah blah. it's late and I'm tired, but if anyone is interested I can provide a more detailed description of what all has been done to it later.
I'm not a huge fan of the 4G63, as I prefer the SR20. But do like S10s and that one will definitly be unique and quick. When I was doing my V6 into my 92, my nissan friend just kept trying to talk me into swapping in an SR20DET. There is plenty of room for a little 2 liter.
Our S10s dont weight anymore than a DSM car, so it should haul nicely. Good luck.
It weighs a lot less than it did with the v8 in it, and all of that weight came off the front end, so it should handle a lot better ( in every aspect). It does have a lot of room, but now that the engine is fully dressed it does a nice job of filling the engine bay ( still a helluva lot easier to work on than the v8 was).
once I get the driveshaft in and the exhaust and intercooler piping done I plan to take it to a scale where I have weighed all of my other cars and get an official weight. to see how it compares.
the rwd 4g63 powered conquest I built was 2860lbs.
my last fwd talon was 2740lbs.
I am guessing the truck should be at or under 2600 lbs.
I have to lower it again. the front end sat up about 2-3 inches.
My truck weighed 2700 with the iron duke 4 banger in it. Now it weighs like 2900 with the 3800. The handling def got worse with the v6, so I put a big swaybar in it to bring it back to where it was with the 4-cylinder.
I want to raise mine up about an inch in the front now to make it sit level with the back again.
yeah, I didn't have a good weight to go by since no one seems to weigh their trucks. all I had was a few claimed curb weights to go by, the engine is pretty light. the tranny I know is 77 lbs wet ( weighed it). front end is pretty gutted, manual steering gear, no a/c etc etc... removed all the factory componenets for the cruise control etc etc ... I figure it shouldn't be too difficult to hit at or under 2600 lbs with it. guess we'll find out when I hit the scale ;)
