  • Powerdyne Problems

I just installed my powerdyne supercharger kit on my 98 camaro. I also installed the fmu but besides that, that was the only other thing that was installed. My problem is that after i finished with everything my car is running very bad. When i give it gas it boggs out and wants to die. It has very bad throttle response and does not idle good either. And dont even ask about driving because I couldnt even get out of the driveway. Any input would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Probably running mega rich. Any codes? Actually, now that I think about it... it could be a number of things...but the first thing you should do is pull a plug and check it. See if it's black with soot. Plus, you need to install a fuel pressure gauge.

check to see if the FMU was installed backwards. Thats pretty probable.

Have you done all of these things?
        http://home.comcast.net/~grayman99/P...-CheckList.htm

also, more than half of my web sit is dedicated soley to installing and running the rksport powerdyn on the 3.8L F body. Check out my "Guides Site"...the first half of the page is basic mods and info and the secon half of page is all powerdyne related with many guides, tips, how's and whys.
        http://home.comcast.net/~grayman99/guide.htm

        Most important:
        Fuel Pressure Gauge,
        TB PCV Bypass,
        John_D Power wrap,
And, frankly...everything else that is on my check list and in my powerdyne guides. I did not invent the stuff...It is more of an archiving project of forced induction and powerdyne knowledge garnered mostly from this forum and executed by me to yield a perfect and flawless powerdyne powered '01 firebird.

Others will join in to help you as soon as they see your post. If you haven't read up on the things on my site...then that is where I suggest you start.

As long as your car wasn't broken before the powerdyne I am sure you will be fine.

        Good luck, G.

Did you plug all your sensor connections back in?

You also have 'chip' listed in your signature as one of your mods. What CHIP is it? You have a completly different set up now that you have a forced induction motor rather than NA.

Also, did you disconect the battery while installing the blower? This will reset the PCM. You want to do that.

Is the MAFF screen still on the TB? Try putting it back on if you had taken it off.

I have the Jet chip for my car but i decided not to use it with the supercharger soo i have not tried it yet. I do still have the screen on my MAF. It does seem to running very rich as though the computer did not reset itself even though I did unplug the battery before the install. One other thing I wondered about was that I have to slightly push on the accelerator to start the car and it will not start unless I do this.

double check the fmu lines. I think (they should be anyways) able to go one way if they come stock with one female and one male quick link connector on the end of the fmu hoses.

I doubt you still have an air bubble in the fuel lines becuase is has started and runs...but bleed the schraedr valve anyway. (use a rag to cover the shraeder valve as gas will squirt out) dry off spilled fuel before starting car.

Regarding your jet chip, I have the jet chip stage one I have run my powerdyne with it and without it, I did this on a number of ocasions to see if and how much of a difference it made with the supercharger and in my opinion it did. I noticed a little more torque off the line when I left it in. Originally I called jet and asked if it still could be used with a super charger and the said "yes but you may have to pull some aditional timing". I never pulled any timing and it has worked fine.

Regarding what Grayman said about the PCM, if you had the chip in and took it out after you installed the SC and did not reset your PCM you definitly need to do that. That chip changes some of the tables and settings like AFR, timing, etc, that might be some of your problems. I know it controls a lot because along time ago I got some water in the engine bay from the car wash and got some moisture in the chip and I had all sorts of problems, no acceleration, wanting to bog and stall, backfiring, reduced power mode, etc.

ALright so here is the update. I have double checked the fmu, and have installed the plug to reduce crankcase pressure. The problem is though that it seems to be running super rich. It has no acceleration and I have to super baby it to even get anywhere. It still bogs like crazy also. When I finally do get it above 50 it does want to take off but then cuts out like it has a bug in it. I have tried reseting the computer multiple times. I also wondered if the if it mattered if the MAF was before or after the supercharger. It also said to move my AIT sensor to the supercharger discharge tube which i havent done. One other thing is that it still will not start without giving it some throttle. All of these things lead me to believe that it is a fuel problem but Im not sure why.

well, you need to put the IAT sensor in the dishcharge tube. I believe the kit should have come with a grommet. I got kit used and it did not have an IAT grommet and the previous owner had silicone all over the discharge tube for the iat sensor. I used an IAT sensor grommet off of a V8 f body airlid. (the v6 airlid has the grommet built into the airlid rubber flex portion and is not removable.

People have used soda pop caps ( 2 litter bottle caps) to mount the IAT sensor. Hey...if you havent moved the IAT sensor then you are sitting there with a hole in the discharge tube...right?

that is not good. You can get a large grommet from hardware store.

I have my IAT sensor in the intake. My pipes that came with the kit (discharge and intake) did not have any pre drilled holes for the IAT. I customized my intake and have the IAT in the stock rubber section that went from the airlid to the throttle body. I wish I new how to post pictures here and I would show you.

About the hole in the discharge tube, there is no predrilled hole for me to go ahead and move my IAT sensor so I would have to drill my own hole. I was just wondering if this had anything with it running poorly or not. Im switching out spark plugs today but last night it was still running super rich and cutting out, with very little acceleration.

are you installing ngk tr6 plugs gapped to .035?

Not everyone runs with the IAT in the discharge tubing...but that is where it should be. IAT = intake air temperature sensor. The PCM uses it to run the engine. The air in the intake gets heated up when it is compressed by the blower. The more psi you create the more the air is compressed so the hotter it gets.

Take a look at the last two pics on this page. (don't worry...i have since 'cleaned up' the discharge tubing and it is much shorter with less bends) The metal elbow has a hole that I drilled and reamed out to fit a V8 Airlid IAT grommet. You could use a normal grommet as well.

I use to run my IAT on my whisper lid. But I had problem with getting an accurate reading. So placed it on the discharge tube. It's better in my opinion.

I am officially sick of working on my car. I cant figure out why its still running soo bad. I havent changed the spark plugs yet. And i think my cat got clogged up from running so rich. I think I am just going to take it to a local shop because i cant figure it out. I dont want to take it to the shop because im gonna have to load it up and a trailer and everything but oh well.
