PCM programming is going to be very very important.

Especially if you are going to do anything like increase the size of the injectors. We have a board member here that did that w/ a nitrous shot w/ out programming, ended up being a factor in blowing his motor.

All in all, we just need a "Project Car" demonstration. I'm sure your working on that though. Good luck, am eager to hear the results.

Agreed. I think you two children have said all you need to say with regard to technical aspects. You can worry about each others rugged good looks elsewhere.

Jason I did not want this to be a bash session!
I think you do make some valid points.I also think
when ask these ouestions remember to take your pills first.Thats what the Valum is for.Just a joke!I think this topic needs one.Jason, the feed
back is good your points are good.If you solve the
problems first, the kit will please people.I will
get rid of the EGR system all together,is this what your caling the PVC?A PVC is a valve that is
part of the EGR system. The system of PCM I will
use is this, the stock maps are cleared then I laod
on my maps. The system is then able to see boost a
MAP(manifold air pressure)sensor is added.I use the GM 3bar.This system is the only way to do what
nobody can figure out.I dont mind telling anyone
what Im doing here.If someone buys a turbo from
us or a blower from another Co.I want it to work!
Its your hard earned $.Jason,I would like you to
E-mail me I think you can help me see problems
that can be fixed before they occur.Guys nobody
knowes these cars better than you.I will at some
point in the R&D ask you questions to figure out
a problem. This always happens so I cant have people bashing my questions. This is why I want Jason or anyone else to be involved. Its your kit
and it will only be as good as we make it.I dont
want to get ahead of my self but I will share this
,I may be able to offer a cheaper kit buy using
the stock headers.I cant say price as of now but
this opens the door to alot of other ppeople
who cant shell out $3500.the kit will be upgradeable to the more costly kit buy ith purchase of parts later. This would only be the headers and turbo change.
Thanks, Keith

Hey Jason - or anyone who knows about maximum boost, how much boost can our engines safely hold with forged 9.0:1 pistons/connecting rods, hardened crankshaft, turbo cam, p&p heads/intakes/tb?

I'm thinking atleast 15 - 18 lbs intercooled, anyone no for sure?

yea i would say 18 gettimg up there

thing is if everything is forged it will hold the power as long as no detonation so you could boost over 20 psi if its not detonating which is just something you have to see if its doing.

to help prevent detonation you can pull timeing, richen it up to an extent, and use higher octain it all depends though

only other problem is blow-by

definitely need some 3 ring pistons to avoid that.

Id be interested -- but only if your turbo kit is legal inside CA -- thats rite, lovely Los Angeles, California.

home of the C.A.R.B -- the smognazis

anyway. if you can make it work for CA id definitely be interested. let me also reccomend that you get a 3.4L testmule if you are gonna build it for the 3.4 due to the fact that there are a great many differences between the 3.8 and 3.4

Alright thanks guys for the input. If you all haven't figured out, I'm taking my car to Keith to be turbocharged in a couple weeks. We've talked on the phone, and Keith really does know his stuff. He has a good design, and we are going to make this kit awesome. I just uninstalled my Ram Air Kit, my Whisper Lid, and HPP3 tuning. The PCM programming Keith is going to do will allow him to change the fuel curve, air/fuel ratio, timing advance/retard, as well as the basic gear ratios and top speed.

The Stage 2 kit will hold the V6 record, but will more than likely require a lot of internal engine work. We are going to test both kits, and collect dyno and track results.

Keith is going to spend a lot of time testing different header systems. He is going to dyno with my RK Sports on, the stock tubular manifolds, and his header design to decide what to do about the headers.

Also all the piping will be mandrel bent by a professional that works near Keith's shops. I personally know that Keith isn't trying to make a killing on these kits money wise. His kit is very fairly priced for the time/materials being put into this. Within a month we will have data collected for the board. Thanks for everyone's input thus far, and please continue to let us know useful information about turbocharging the 3.8 V6 engine. Afterall, any help you give us will inturn help yourself when you decide to buy this kit.

How do you figure? The compression map looks fine to me. That turbo selection looks fine.

Forged interanls maybe a waste. One mistake you may rush into is doing internal engine work. If your engine can handle the boost, forged internals are a waste. Higher boost will be achieved mainly through more fuel. #42lb. injectors maybe a little big, but he will not know until he decides how much boost he will be going with. PCM reprogramming will have to be done then so it can idle right, but hopefully with all of that and high octane fuel, detonation problems should be taken care of.

If he is creating a kit, I think he would go with a type of breather to prevent blow-by. Blow-by can be an easy thing to fix, and you should not be too worried about it.

blocks the incoming air and over heating on a forced induction system = detonation.I think the
stock headers could be used on the kit by bringing
them into a collector at the turbo.

I don't like the idea of having the intercooler infront of the radiator. That will block the radiator then from the engine. I agree that a front mount is the way to go, and when you see the spce you ahve to work with, you may agree. You should check out LT1 and LS1 turbo kits and see how they mount their intercoolers.

I also don't like the idea of using the stock exhaust manifolds either. The problem with bringing it to a collector is you route the exhaust to the back of the engine, then to the front to the turbo, then to the back again to go through the exhaust system. I think once you see our cars, you will notice the limited space, and I think everyone mostly would like to keep their A/C's.

4CEFED, good luck with this, and if you have any questions about our cars, you know where to bring the questions. I can't promise you though Jason won't pitch a fit and start *****ing about how much he knows everything. :D
