My sc is due back from the rebuild today, tomorrow. Ive got it lined up for a saturday install. The problem is, I was thinking about headers. I can't find anyone around here willing to install them.. Is it ok to install this with the stock exaust manifolds? It may be a few months before I get the headers installed. I mean it is on my list, but I can't right now. I've had people just freak out about installing the sc without them. I don't know what to think about it anymore. ... anyone?

I would say yes you should be fine. When you buy the kit new they never say anything about having to put headers on and as long as you are going do to it in a few months I do not think there will be a problem.Modifications:
headers, throtle bod spacer, flowmaster, high flow magnaflow carsound cat, powerdyne sc with 2.9\" pulley and by-pass valve, walboro 255 fuel pump, spec stage 2 clutch, and HP Tuners

Girlfriend, I've been driving my SC Bird for 7 years without headers. It's been fine.
I got headers but I'm waiting for the next smog schedule before I install them. Plus you're right. Nobody wants to touch them. Too many shops here are saying it's not legal and it's too hard. One shop was charging me $500. Can you believe that. I know I can do it but I live in a apartment that doesn't allow any work on cars.

Thanks, I have the same problem... apartment. I have a shop to help with the sc, but he wont allow the header job in there. THey guy I talked to did a ls1 and took him 15 hours. Removed the steering column etc. He wants a ton of money too. So I put the order on hold. Thanks again for your help. I really do owe you big time for all your replies. I DO thank you. your car will be a lot faster with or without headers.
faster with headers...yes.
car will explode without headers....no
car will be fast without headers....yes
I don't remember seeing a check list:
You got the FMU on or atleast have the proper connections so that it will work?
Performed a throttle body bypass as well as a valve cover breather cap?
you put the oil pressure sender 45 degree elbow on...with thread tape and have it pointing towards the drivers side?
you have printed all instructions for your mechanic...RKSport, Mcaanda and the grayman addendum...(the last may save you shop time money)
Your kit should have 2 approximatly 8" threaded rods and a third "S" shaped bracket...all for the main mouting plate.
you have at least an open end (box wrench) that fits the rksport pulley tensioner bolt so that you yourself can tighten -retighten-loosen the tensioner as needed.
The weather just hit 88 degrees here in seattle. the thin hot air combined with the AC compressor being ON does give my car a real bad idle. The compressor squeaks and chirps when the car idles as well. It is embarrasing at stop lights. I typicaly turn the AC off and over to VENT when at a stop light. No noises nor any problems at cruising or under load...just at idle. I may be loosening the belt a bit...'summer mode' to see it this helps. If it helps then I have a choice between 'performance' and 'convenience.'
Good luck. I hope it goes well.

Let see, i have the oil fitting, it's not on yet. He has the fmu, but the vac line is there ready on the car. I might borrow a tool and do the filter housing mod for the John_D wrap if he will let me. Can you suggest how far to trim, without going too far and ruining the housing? Being a holiday weekend, If I go too far, I doubt I could get a replacement. Need the car for work Tuesday. I have one bracket. That is for the manual tensioner. And One other one that is a flat chrome rod with two bolt holes in each end, angled. Like a support bracket. The sc has the mount already on it. That is all the brackets I have. Oh, one black one, looks like it may be for the fmu. The blowout valve is welded on one of the pipes, but looks like it has a large diamiter vacuum fitting on the top. What is that? Do I leave it alone? Umm, what else...Oh yah one little plastic pully. With the grooves. I have an ideler and a tensioner. Does the ideler get replaced with the little plastic wheel? Do I shi* can the tensioner that is stock? I guess that is all master greyman. I wish to be a jedi soon.Jessica :)
Kansas: There\'s no place like home...99 Firebird Blown/6lbs, Eaton w/3.42\'s CI headers Z28 Exaust
CAI, #36 injectors Intense PCM

If you do have to pay someone to put your headers on once you get them and they say it will take more than 8 hours, then they need to find a new job, because thats how long it took me in my driveway, on jackstands without nearly all the tools needed. Im sure for a some amount of beer, there would be some guys from the board who would be more than willing to help.Msd wires,Summit coils,Cuctom CIA&longtubes 2.5inch w/side exit,Cam,Heads & Intake,30# injectors, reprogrammed computer,3400 edge Converter, 3.73\'s&LSD,Edlebrock torque arm, SLP LCA\'s,Jegs panhard bar,16 inch nittos Best ET 14.374 @94
Best 60\' 1.91
