Turbo is on, but there is some issues

Hey all, its done, my car is oficially turboed. I am having some issues i need help with.
1. My car is smoking from the exhaust really bad. Alot of white smoke. looks like i caught the neighborhood on fire.
2. I am not reading boost, when i hit boost(i can feel it very well)it reads 1 psi of vacuum, and when the car is at idle, it reads at zero.
3. My damn elbow at the throttle body keeps blowing off, and when i torqued it on there, it ripped whn i took off and the turbo spooled up.

I will post pics soon. I was too mad tonight to take any. There are up sides: It sounds really cool, lol. I like to hear the BOV go woosh when i shift. And it gives me a kick in the *** whn i step on it even at a quarter throttle. I just wish i knew how much boost im pushing. I know its not alot because i have a boost controller, and I put it at the absolute lowest, and the wategate actuator is adjusted to the absolute lowest also. Please help me mostly with the white smoke issue. Its not oil, and it has no smell.

blue is engine oil
White, sadly, is antifreeze/coolant. It sounds like you have a blown headgasket to me or you're losing coolant somewhere...

Yah that always sucks, if your headgasket is blown although you will see bad heat control issues like overheating very very fast. Also it will idle really rough. Wtaer/coolant in one of the cylinders will do that.

In my 86 when I took out one of the sparkplugs and cranked it water shot clear across the garage.

my buddies 300 zx smokes after he put his turbo on... he hasnt had any problems what so ever all he is pushing is 4-5 pounds he thinks ( no guage at all ) but yea man his does the same... hmmm if it is a head gasket ill tell him about it, course i dont know no hell of alot about turbos maby ask the dude thats trying to fabricate the turbo if he has done many kits as he says he has he may be able to help you trouble shoot

They arent sure either, they thought it was just everything in the new exhaust system breaking in. When I put my new cat on before it smoked too. My car stays very cool, and doesnt overheat at all. Im stumped. When i took out my old plugs they had some white on them. Im really not sure about the whole situation.

If its staying cool its not a head gasket. When my head gasket blew on my camaro it got warm very very fast. What kind of plugs are you running? Stock plugs? Or are they colder heat range?

Dude you have to post pics. I need to show my mechanic so we can fabricate my turbo. PICS PLEASE?

Hey, I will post pics soon, it was dark out, and the pics dont some out soo good at night. The plugs are 2 ranges colder than stock.

tiago had allooooooooot of white smoke when we got his turbo put on.(mosiquito fogger lol)


he was burning oil from when we hooked everything up (got some oil on stuff)

and did you make sure you had a BIG return line from the turbo to the oil pan (talking 2 times the size as the one that feeeds the turbo

your boost gauge isnt hooked up right or it could be leaking or the line could have a crick in it

umm your gonna have to come up with something to help hold the intake pipe to the tb tiago i know had may still have a problem with his blowing off on his


i would look at the rk sport s/c to see how they connect to the TB and use what they use proply ( i forgot what we used though when we installed a rk sport on a friends car)

and if you had blown a head gasket your car would run like *** so i wouldnt be worried

A lot of times with a blown head gasket if you look at the oil it will look kind of like tapioca pudding and a little milky.

humm I didn't have white smoke? there was smoke from oil we got on everything, ,but no white smoke like he is describing.

my intake is ziptied to the throttle body, it stays on pretty good, need another zip tie on it and it should be perfect [img]smile.gif[/img]

Well it sounds like oil is going past your bareing in the turbo and going out the exhaust causing the white smoke.

I think you are having the wame problem we had with tiagos car. your oil return line isnt big engough so it backs up and pushes oil back into the turbo and burns it up. smelled bad also. I would check to make sure your oil return line to the oil pan is at least twice as big.
