  • FP gauge q's

Well I finally hooked up my fuel pressure gauge's sender ... like 1.5 years after I put the gauge in, and months after I've removed the turbo (for which I'll make a helluva deal for someone).

Anyway, I had done the "patented" xj cut the return line mod for my FMU, and when I removed the FMU, I used a tee fitting to reconnect the lines, with the extra tap going to the gauge.

I'm pretty sure that it's all wired up correctly, but the gauge sits at 0. Key on gives a brief 0 6 15 25 14 5 0 pattern, and engine running gives only 0.

Does the return line have pressure?
Do I need to switch the feed to the schrader, or the feed line instead?
Could it be an electrical problem?

    Thanks!

    feed line not return line.

I at first used mismatching gauge of wires for the sender to the gauge. I had nothing.... I realized i had used lighter gauge wire and switched that out with mathcing gauge.(14g) All was golden after that.

Ya I figure it should be on the feed ... does the return not carry anything? Ugh, once you xj you don't go back on the fuel lines ... you know?

actually, you can find a Fuel Injection hose repair kit. it is just a 5/16" (in this case for the return line) tube with barbs on either end. Get a couple of 5/16" Fuel Injection clamps and you will be good to go. Check the 'fittings' drawers at a good parts store. they might me anywhere but are probably with or near the npt fittings.

you can also find the KIT version...a tube and a couple of clamps over near the PCV valves and the fuel filters in most stores.

Ya I know I could cut it all up again ... I'll get to it sometime this summer I guess ... I'll probably just connect the return line again and extend the feed over to the schraeder.

The stickie is great. Mine went in trouble free, leak free, hassle free. The parts were right on the money. Don't forget the valve stem remover, I did. And it takes a little time to bleed off 42 pounds of pressure, I used quite a few rags to get the fuel coming out.
