  • General Turbo Questions

im coming from the 4banger import crowd, but ive learned to have the turbo feed from both headers.

what fuel mods need to be done to safely run 7psi. Would a vortech fmu with a 12:1 or maybe 6:1 disc? which would be best?

also, would an apexi s-afc work for tuning?

    thanks
my 02 Lancer might be totaled, some 60 yr old lady in a van t-boned it in the driver side front wheel. if its totaled im either getting a v6 camaro or a 1g dsm...probably the camaro though!

That stuff would work. Personally, ontop of the FMU, I'd also upgrade to 36 lb. GTP injectors and a 255 LPH fuel pump from Walbro.

7 psi has been done w/ stock fuel system's on our cars, except with the addition of a bigger fuel pump. I'd say a walboro 255 or 340 pump, an adjustable FPR, and maybe a MAF-T to tune with. bigger injectors aren't needed, but would allow for even higher hp levels in the future.

Won't idle quality suffer unless you reprogram the computer? You can't just throw in bigger injectors.

Well any import crowd that uses the terms turbo and headers in the same setup need to be shot, almost garunteed they have manifolds lol. If you mean both banks of the engine (v4, inline 4 which is most 4 cyclinder engines only has 1 bank) I believe that most of the v6 turbo systems only use one bank of the engine due mainly to the space needed however I could be wrong.

You are wrong. Any respectable system will run both banks.

            lets put this to rest:

ALWAYS, ALL CYLINDERS HAVE TO DRIVE A TURBO ON A SINGLE OR TWIN SYSTEM. NO CYLINDERS SHOULD BE LEFT OUT OF THE TURBO SYSTEM EVER!

            ;)

How about Vortech's Super Fuel Management Unit and 36 lb injectors? The 36 lb injectors would have to be run at about 20 psi (off boost) fuel pressure to deliver fuel at the same rate as the stock 22 lb injectors run at the stock 52 psi fuel pressure ie no reprogramming of the computer necessary to run the 36 lb injectors.

At 10 psi boost, with the FMU set to 5:1 the fuel presure would be 70 psi or about 70% more fuel delivered when the engine is taking in about 65% more air. I'm guessing the injectors wouldn't lock open from excessive fuel presure until 15 psi boost.

You could adjust off boost fuel presure using autotap following long and short term trim, and ramp rate with boost using rich/lean O2 sensor.

So you mean you don't want to just use half of your available exhaust gases to spin the turbine and create severly different backpressure for each bank? I'm shocked!

haha i know about the headers and exhaust manifold..however a v6 has 2...instead of my little lancer having 1.

i dont plan on pushing gobs of boost, 7psi or 9 psi intercooled is prolly where im gonna stop. so i figure 9psi intercooled witha Vortech FMU and Walbro pump should do it...right?

Sounds pretty safe to me (for 7psi). Bigger injectors aren't needed for that setup.
