• benefits of Electronic Boost Controler

I got a good deal on an APEXi ACV-R electronic boost controler so I bought it. I know there are some advantages to an EBC (turnin up the boost, better spool up, etc). What kind of gains can I expect from a turbo kit with this boost controler (without turning the boost up, purely based on better spool, etc. )?

From a boost CONTROLLER? It really won't help with spool at all I believe...Unless I'm wrong. All it allows you to do is turn up or down the boost from inside the car..someone was yanking your chain.....

I found the post, Tiago said it, so thats probably why it stuck in my mind, and I believe that man - but I don't know maybe he was talking about something else. I know it says it helps spool, but I wasn't sure how much of that is really true.

You can make a boost controller yourself for about $12 in fittings, if that much. Set it and forget it. Search for manual boost controller, or something like that. It's a few brass pipe fittings, a spring, a ball bearing, a bolt, and a nut. Presto-chango. As loose as it goes, and the waste gate runs where it's shimmed. Tighten it up, and the boost increases. This works by delaying the signal that the wastegate sees. Those electronic ones do the same thing, just electronically.

a electronic boost controller will help spool time because it uses selenoid valves to control the wastegate and somehow actuate teh valves to speed up spool time. They are tricky little ****ers. A manual controller works but its a different deal. Electronics are very nice.

You can set boost per RPM or per gear you are in. Time delay full boost. Many different features.

The claim is that you can prevent the wastegate from opening until the last possible moment. There are gated manual boost controllers that claim to do the same thing.

The other features of the electronic boost controller are more worthwhile.

the big thing is the time delay for full boost. if you are spinning on launches like shane and all them, you set it for like 8psi during the launch then have full boost come in at a good time/rpm after you think the car will have hooked already and is on its way.

you can change the boost, when the boost comes in and how much at certain rpms, and you can change your duty cycle and ALOT of other things. i liked mine but then again hated it bc there were just too mant settings. there is a lot you have to set up in it to get it to work right also.

a duty cycle is time spent on and time spent off (0 for off and 1 for on, its a binary thing).
Like my plasma torch has a 5min on and 5min off duty cycle.
