  • Upgrading the FMU and Fuel Pump

Alright I'm pumped up about installing my FFF turbo kit. I'm sure I can do all the installation my self besides the Y-pipe thing. Before I start installing the kit, I want to upgrade some componets in my kit. But I wanted to make sure its going to work before I drop $500 at ebay.

The first thing I want to upgrade is the FMU. I'm not too found of cutting into fuel lines to install the vortech FMU so I want to get an electrical one. I was thinking of something like Apexi S-AFC. Is this going to work? I think its going to work since theres an install guide for an OBD-II Saturn here. But I just want some advice from turbo experts before I go and blow up my motor.

Second is the fuel pump. Like I said, I'm not too found of cutting into fuel lines. So, I was thinking. If I upgrade the fuel pump to walbro pump, would I not need to install the inline booster pump? My car has 75000 miles on it and I think its a good time to replace the pump if this is the case.

um...no need to 'cut' fuel lines to connect af FMU. Our cars use GM Quick disconect fittings. the FMU should already have those on the ends of it's hoses. they simply plug in and are incorporated with the fuel system...not cut.

A whalbro fuel pump (255) will not require a second booster pump to be fitted in line. One or the other...but not both. that is the point of upgrading to a big *** pump like the whalbro 255. BTW our cars have a HIGH Pressure Fuel System. Don't get the low pressure whalbro.

take a look at my 'guides' section of my website. check out the guides for installing the whalbro, a fuel pressure sender and also the fmu related guides.

Get the high pressure intank walbro and you wont need the inline at all.

I think FFF's kit comes where you have to cut the lines to install the FMU. If you want to chase down the fittings you can do what grayman is advising.

Dont' waste your money on that Apexi unit.
HP tuners is where you want to go in that department and potentially ditch the FMU for some large injectors.

I decided to go with the mega squirt system for the FMU. But I was wondering. Is it safe to run the turbo kit without the FMU while I wait for the mega squirt stuff to come in?
