  • What RPM does the BOV starts working.

Is there an ideal rpm for this?

I was revving my car today with the hood openned. I heard the usual exhaust and blower whine but rpm got to 4400 rpm the BOV came alive.

It sounded really good and loud like a whip lash. I almost jump out of my seat when I heard it.

I've had it for over a year now after my fiasco with Bosch. But I've never played with it.

I adjusted the Tyfoon and it did it around 4000 rpm. And again at 3800.

So is there a better setting for this?

By the way, Love the sound. Imagine hearing the blower whine at a high pitchand then a whip lash at the end ;) .

    errrr..

I think you only want the BOV to be going off when you are not at WOT, ie you let off the gas..

other wise you are wasting perfectly good booost

That's what I thought. I'm tighting it up again. Just wanted to see if there is something to this adjustable BOV. Cool

What? You should "blow off" anytime you close (100% or not) the throttle plate, so that boost "backs up" downstream of the compressor. For turbos or blowers, whenever the boost hits a wall, like your throttle plate going from open to closed or semi-closed, the bov should sense the drop in boost / increase in vacuum, and open up.

You shouldn't hear jack **** as you go through a gear, but when you let off the throttle, you should hear it all venting.

Whoa, I should explain myself a little better. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

It didn't happen while the TB plate was open but rather when I did a quick release of the gas at 4400 rpm and it's immediately followed by the wwwhoooosss sound.

I post in the General Tech about my issues with my rpm not going beyond 1800 rpm. Now that's it's fixed and OK, I've been revving it in nuetral. Just playing around with the Tyfoon adjustment.

I know now to keep it tight and have it blow off at high rpm.

Ah, gotcha. So you're building boost in neutral and then blowing it off. I'm not sure how the, umm, boost "dynamics" work at idle, because the engine will rev up very very fast without the load of moving the car. So it's just a matter of how much / how quick it will build boost while sitting in your driveway. You could always go for a bunch of test drives!

it should always be open if you are not touching the throttle... the only thing you could maybe hear while at WOT would be your wastegate opening at its boost setting. it sounds nothing like a BOV though.

boost goes into the TB via the charger/turbo. when the TB is open, the boost flows in. when the TB shuts rapidly, like during shifts in a stick car, the boost in the tube hits the TB and has nowhere to go but back towards the charger/turbo, creating pressure against the turbine/compressor, and causing wear. the BOV lets that excess back-boost out.

If you have an auto then you should not be blowing *anything thru the blow valve at idle, assuming you are in neutral) with a stick the loading is very different...you will always blow pressure thru the valve if you hit the throttle...

why would you blow pressure when you hit the gas? I can see between shifts since the gas is let up- closing the TB. making the excess pressure blow off, but why when you hit the gas?

its not when you hit the throttle, i dont knwo what hes talking about. you are right: when the TB closes, the backpressure goes out the BOV. thats it.
