• California peeps with Forced Induction, inside plz

ive had my car for a year, and im finished with the exterior, now its time for engine mods. My summer job starts next week, and when im finished i should have enough for a GP on the turbo kit.

my question is this: Those that are in CA, that have either a turbo, or a blower, did you get some heat from the smog guys on the visual inspection?

i dont wanna buy this kit, go in for smog, and have em tell me i have to take it off. if i cant pass visual, then ill just go the nitrous route.

    thx
I guess I\'d have answer your question with another question.

How many Abidiginals do you see in modeling??????

headers, 3inch magnaflow cat, Loudmouth
99 Midnight Blue Firebird
3.8L A4

depends where u go and who u know. some places skip visual, others stick to it like glue. u should pass sniffer w/ proper tuning, but visual u won't pass if they trip about it.

Why won't you pass visual with a turbo??

PD comes with a CARB # on the blower but I still failed the emission test. And it only ran 2psi on their dyno. It passed when I removed it.

Guess what, my car is due for one next month. So I have to remove a bunch of mods and have my car looking clean.

I know a shop that does it illegally for imports with turbos and stuff. But it got busted.

I'm sure when properly tune it will pass emission. Also take it to a small no name shop to do it. Be sure to have plenty of cash with you just in case.

Maybe this is something FFF should do. Make their kit with CARB#. Just like Nuespeed, Greddy and others. That would make it a very competitive kit.

I will tell you right now...In cali you will NEVER pass smog!! Visual is subjective...however on the sniffer, you chances are zero to none...
I have been in the game for almost 8years...to pass smog legally you need CLOUT, a lot of it...
I have been working in close tandem with www.westcoastfiero.com to fight the bureau on legalizing 3800SC swaps in fieros. After 4yrs we are just starting to see less of the smoke screen. Technicality is how you either pass or fail...we ended talking with the bigfish and I was amazed how most of this things become set on stone...do you wonder how hondas can get EO#, because of politics...this cars pollute less from the factory and to be gracious, the bureau grants them almost anything beyond the gray...
so to stop all my long winded speech...if you cannot have an extra mula put aside every 2yrs then I will suggest looking for other means...

If you are a smog tech in CA and you get caught you get fined and have to go to court. 3 strikes and your out does apply for this crime. They I mean CA consider this a felony, My dad cheered when he was able to not reapply for the test, and so now he doesn't do smog anymore hurray. Only put carb approved parts on your car, so that you don't have to remove them every other year to pass smog.

I've thought this through and I have a 3.8. I think the best thing to do if you want a fast car in Cali is get an old, fast muscle car. No smog ;D

Even that won't pass visual either. But then again it is easy to remove. PD is very easy to remove and back to stock intakes in less than 40 min.

I guess you could do turbo if you don't mind removing it every 2 yrs.

true, but nitrous is gonna be way cheaper than a PD, or a turbo.

goddamn california. should i attempt to go the NA way, or just go for nitrous?

juice it! take a old battery and gut it. put the nitrous soliniods in the gutted batter. run the N20 line up the airpassage and straight into the airbox. Cover all lines with any black tubing. for the bottle, take a gym bag and cut the bottom out of it. place that over the bag and put wrags, tools and spray oil in the bag and around the bottle. Good luck
