I ordered the Crane timing retard for my 99. I am hoping this helps my performance problems a little. I think my timing is getting retarded too much. I rode in a scv6 this weekend (2000) Camaro, and it is incredible compared to mine. We compared notes, and the only thing diff, from that install is the Crane TR 2. He is running 6lbs as well. He thought there was chart that you set these by. 1/2 degree per 1 lb. of boost or something like that. Anyone know? Where should I set it to start with? Also, still sputters at take off, had it scanned and no codes at all.

I don't think that's your problem. But it wouldn't be a bad idea to get one. Since we are not intercooled, the Crane should be set to 1 for every 3 psi. So if you are running 6psi, then the Crane should be set at 2.
Whose SCV6 was it? So did he find the problem to your car?
I have a feeling it is in the FMU that's why there wasn't any code and/or how the FP, Boost and FMU are all connected together. Have you installed the new FMU? If not then, take it to a Perf. Shop and have them install it. Also have them check everything else.
Don't be surprise if they say, why is that belt on backward on that SC. Just tell them it's a custom job. ;)

Well, I put the old one back on. I'm going to rebuild the other one, I have the kit. Came with my sc. He said just put smaller washers(the hole in them) in it to get more f/p. The car is owned by a friend of my brothers. He lives in Miami. Everything is hooked up right. He does get alot more f/p then I do. So, we tracked the vac line, and it was ok. I do plan on getting some new tubing, and just redoing the whole vac setup, just in case I missed something. On the belt, you mean that we run the smooth side? Does that freak people out? Oh, where are you getting the 9 lb pullies from? Yeah it does get some of the Perf. Shop when they see. They just simple scratch their heads.
Then I guess the FMU could be your problem then. It should be at 42-45 at idle and then jumps to 80 when you nail it.
ASP sells a 9 psi pulley. Just get the 2.85 one instead of the 2.9. But be sure to debug everything before moving up to a 9psi.

when you order the pulley from asp.com you should get it grooved..im not sure if a smaller belt is needed..but i think i remember attempting my 9 psi setup on the one supplied with the kit<b>12 SECOND DUAL STAGE DRY NITROUS POWERED 98 A4 V6 CAMARO<br /><a href=\"http://www.mysickcamaro.50megs.com\" target=\"_blank\">www.MySickCamaro.50megs.com</a><br />Best ET: 12.82@103<br />Best MPH: 104.7<br />Best 60\': 1.75 - Stock TC</b><br /> </font><blockquote><font size=\"1\" face=\"Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif\">quote:</font><hr /><font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif\">Originally posted by Shodown:<br /><strong>1DV6 runs 12\'s...enough said. </strong></font><hr /></blockquote><font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif\">

^ thats how i ran on 6 psi..i never had the timing retard in there at all and just always used premium fuel<b>12 SECOND DUAL STAGE DRY NITROUS POWERED 98 A4 V6 CAMARO<br /><a href=\"http://www.mysickcamaro.50megs.com\" target=\"_blank\">www.MySickCamaro.50megs.com</a><br />Best ET: 12.82@103<br />Best MPH: 104.7<br />Best 60\': 1.75 - Stock TC</b><br /> </font><blockquote><font size=\"1\" face=\"Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif\">quote:</font><hr /><font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif\">Originally posted by Shodown:<br /><strong>1DV6 runs 12\'s...enough said. </strong></font><hr /></blockquote><font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif\">

Oh, I have been running 93, since b4 the install. The guy I talked to thought the TRC-2 might help, because it's telling the PCM at boost when to retard, not letting it do it itself, or something like that.....
About the pully, do I need to specify a diamiter (inner) so it fits the powerdyne shaft? These are the people who make the horizontal grooved ones right?
If I do get my FMU figured out, are there any other mods I need for 9lbs I don't have?
(My max F/P has been 60 lately)

just tell ASP that you want a 2.85" grooved pulley for a 3.8 V6 Firebird Powerdyne kit..they'll know what to do from there since they've already made plenty of them..mine was around $100 and i had it in like 2 weeks..on 9 psi you're going to need an aftermarket fuel pump..you may even need injectors but im not sure on that<b>12 SECOND DUAL STAGE DRY NITROUS POWERED 98 A4 V6 CAMARO<br /><a href=\"http://www.mysickcamaro.50megs.com\" target=\"_blank\">www.MySickCamaro.50megs.com</a><br />Best ET: 12.82@103<br />Best MPH: 104.7<br />Best 60\': 1.75 - Stock TC</b><br /> </font><blockquote><font size=\"1\" face=\"Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif\">quote:</font><hr /><font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif\">Originally posted by Shodown:<br /><strong>1DV6 runs 12\'s...enough said. </strong></font><hr /></blockquote><font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif\">

for what it's worth...
The aftermarket whalbro fuel pump (255) is often suggested when moving up to 9 psi. However, the FMU will keep building boost in proportion to your new HIGHER) 9 psi pulley. Nobody has blown a motor yet by not adding a bigger fuel pump while running a 9psi
pulley. In fact...people are still running rich and 'tuning down' their injector pulses to compensate for the rich fuel mixture.
I would like to get this 'fuel pump' issue figured out a bit better. Sometimes people remove the FMU entirely and move to bigger injectors and then 'tune' the PCM for the new injectors. This is different that using a FMU...regardless of what PSI your blower is running at.
I am sorry you are having such a big problem with the car being sluggish off the line. As already suggested, though...fixing that problem is obviously your main concern...before you upgrade the pulley. I am real happy with my rig running 6psi. A 9psi setup would be faster....but the car is pretty awesome right now as it is. it is simpler as well because I don't use a timing retard module...just premium fuel and the ngk tr6 plugs.
I forget if you mentioned where the IAT sensor is mounted?

Not to steal the thread but I wanna go to a 9lb pulley as well and want to get rid of the FMU and just run straight injectors is that possible and how big of injectors would I need if it is possible<a href=\"http://www.cardomain.com/profile/blackfbird_98\" target=\"_blank\">http://www.cardomain.com/profile/blackfbird_98</a>
