Well, an update for you guys. I'm losing boost somewhere. I just rebuilt the turbo, so maybe it's not making it in the first place. It will spool to about 2-3 psi, and will vent through the BOV when I snap the throttle shut. But I'm not seeing the 5-7 psi I was seeing before the rebuild / sitting for 6 months, and I think I'm not feeling it either.

Anyway ... could the BOV be leaking, i.e. be semi-stuck in the open position? I know I need to fix a few fittings on my boost gauge, but it reads the VAC side fine. I also think that it's time to redo my intake piping, maybe put on the intercooler.

OH --- and the darn turbo to header seal is leaking. Do they make gaskets for that area? OR should I have both halves machined flat?

Catch you guys on the boosted side. And no smoke now after the rebuild.

If your using a internally wastegated turbo maybe they might of tweaked something in there like a spring or seal in the actuator during the rebuild that makes the actuator more sensitive to boost (like it thinks 3psi is 7psi) and then it would limit your boost. Just a thought.

you could always call up turbonetics and get a cheetah swinger and valve section. jsut a thought.

Looks like I dropped one of the little 1/2" bolts that hold the center section to the turbine ... dropped it into the intake tube, which fell into the BOV piston area, and jammed the thing open. Had to use the mityvac to get the thing loose. No wonder I couldn't make more than 1-2 psi -- there was a big opening in my intake tract!

Well, that's done. I'm plumbing the intercooler right now. Big mofo ... [img]smile.gif[/img]

yeah, most turbo vendors should have them available, or at least be able to get them, or you can cut your own from some thin stainless steel sheet or copper. basically any soft thin metal that will compress slightly will work.

I'd imagine aluminum would work, but I have never personally used it, and the temps at the collector are pretty high.

stainless is probably your best bet.

Well, installed the intercooler. And now I start the process of boosting, blowing off fittings, and re-tightening until it's all good to go.

Blew one on the way down. Got that. Blew one doing an errand today, got that. Seems good to go!
Big ol' intercooler works fine. Still making about 5 lbs of boost, doesn't seem to be much if any drop through the IC.

Man, I wonder if I can get 300+ rwhp and 350+ rwtq like Shane!

hptuners is on the way, got my BOV, fixing my header leak, new/better guages.. and doing the TB plug soon!!

got a schweet deal on my bov from turboXS.. but.. i picked it up directly from their warehouse here in gaithersburg.. and i know the guys that work there from racers den.. see rob.. you need to hang out more.. getting stuff at cost is WIN!!

Skeeered? I'm probably at 500 miles on the break-in with everything. Aside from a few lingering challenges, I'd say I'm almost good to go on the track!

I'd still like to install my line-lock and mount up some BFG's that I have, but we'll see. Also want to do rear brakes, a rear bearing, and run a tube for my BOV vent, since it sits below the fenderwell. Other than that ....... [img]smile.gif[/img]

sounds good rob.. honestly I may install my bov in the next few days.. i will do the gauges over the weekend.. then i gota tune out that error.. then i will be ready to take it to the track for the first time.. it shuld be good though.. i am hoping to come out making about 7#'s.. and running well..

Ug ... clutch leaks fluid somewhere, but it's slow enough that I can just top off now and then.

Buddy tells me that it's leaking oil on the cold side, and that there's some oil coming out of my BOV.

And sometimes I get on it and the boost goes to 5 psi, then 2, then 5, then 2 really quickly. Could this be the BOV not holding? (should hold fine at these LOW levels) ... I figure it's a fitting flexing, releasing, and reengaging. I'll find it ... track time!
