• STS Turbo for V6

Ok guys, sorry that I have not been here in a while I switched offices and have been way too busy with life to complete the project that I had.
I was formerly CM Boyd, and the project was a custom remote mounted turbo. I sold the kit to a member on this board (Where are ya Charlie?) who was supposed to get it done right. Unfortunately i ain't heard from him in over 6 months.
I did not give up totally on the project because I made mock-up piping of the original unit that was fabbed on my Firebird. I even kept an extra unused turbo and will probably construct another head unit for somebody that wants to try it. Still got all the brass fittings and clamps to boot.

The real problem that was KILLING me was the excessive oil leaks, smoking, and exhaust leaks.
Too bad I quit the project before repairing those
issues. You will find it quite difficult to have a daily driver and Turbo project happening at the same time. You just have to plan real well.

I was using a .63 on the exhaust side which did real well. The RKSPORT headers kept leaking because the bolts would come loose. The oil pump was getting weak, and I was spending more time under the car than driving it. Better luck next time... I am looking forward to constucting another kit in the future.
Maybe then we can have some solid numbers.
Thanks for the support everyone.

sounds framilliar, i had to stop my project and sell off the turbos for lack of funds. I'll probably start back up again in the coming months.

Thanks for replacing my original signon. Hey Thor,
glad you still have the pics too. I figured that
my next project will be port and polished heads and an upgraded valvetrain. I seem to be alot better at fixing stuff that is already in place instead of customizing turbo systems.

I have oil and exhaust leaks too... the oil is coming out the valve covers(fixed) and the rear main. Exhaust is coming out of the ypipe where it meets the manifolds... gonna get that fixed in the spring(very small leak but annoying).

Gotta love the custom turbo projects

my vavle covers starter leaking too, only when motor is under load i smell it... i can boost all day and never smell it, but under heavy loads, like going up a hill, it kills me lol

You guys make me fell welcome once again. It is nice to know that I was not alone. :D I am gathering some more parts like an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator and fuel and air ratio gauges. When the weather gets a little nicer in spring I will be able to do a little more.

i've been considering a turbo project, and i was wondering would a custom kit be cheaper than say a kit from FFF? I am a little conserned about everything i've been hearing im not quite sure if im ready to face all these problems, all ready it seems like i fix one problem but it creates two more.
K&N air filter, Whisper air lid, magnaflow LT1 cat back, and magnaflow high flow cat, pacesetter headers, silverstars

more to come soon
but for now im out of money

really? Tiago did it while it was his only car, and he drove it daily to work during his build, and the day he finished it, drove the piss out of it, then drove 500 miles across texas to oklahoma.

Its doable, just have to know what you're doing.

I do have the sts kit that is being installed on my car march 6th with a good tune. I see what it is going to happen...I have rksport headers as well and I am going to make sure no leaks will come from them or if I have too I will put some paceseters headers on there instead..or go back to the stock manifolds
