  • buff up the engine?

Once I finish completing my basic bolt on mods I would really like to get a turbo. Is it safe just to throw on a turbo or would it be wise to get higher density rings, forged rods and pisitons...etc.

depends on our hp goals. up to 400 hp I would keep the stock motor.

I'd say it depends more on the depth of your pockets. Even if you don't want tons of hp upgrading the engine isn't a bad thing, it just isn't exactly necassary. Its perfectly safe to run stock internals on most basic kits.

But then again it will greatly prolong the life of your engine right?

So far no one has had a problem with the stock internals as long as you don't crank up the boost. Built engines also have a habit of not lasting as long as stock engines. So its kind of an odd tradeoff depending on what you do.

Hey the less money i have to spend the better. Anyone have a guestimate on hp and tq gains on a turbo alone?

search and you'll see alot of people and their numbers. Tiago may be able to give you some stocker + turbo kit numbers as well since ya know.. his is the only actual turbo kit lol.

I could give you a started list of the "unlimited budget build-up" of our motors. it basically is my own personal guide to a complete motor swap to a brand new race prepped setup. The few areas I'm hazy on I'm sure tiago could chime in on, since those areas include tuning and customizing of the motor to a turbo application.

Basic boost setting for the kit is 7 psi and with teh addition of a boost controller the supplied turbo can push much more.
