Forgive me.. but what are the most popular turbocharger brand names?...
...and where are the best places online to buy them?
I was looking at sequential turbos and those seem to be the best kind. I'm pretty new to all this but I'm learning. So what brands do you recommend? I will want an intercooler too.
Please do not make this a super-turbo debate... I already learned about supers.

garrett, KKK, turbonetics, and greddy to name a few. you can also look for Saab and Mitsubishi for some rebuilts.

oh bro, dont get into sequentials. they are cool but they add a ton of backpreasure and they are harder to make work than the friggin space shuttle. stop while you are ahead. as for intercoolers, look for ones that say ther are a "bar and plate" design. those are more durable than the "tube and fin" but they are also a lot more expensive. two good companies to look under to find nice intercoolers are greddy and Spearco (spearco is my personal favorite). the other thing is, dont think you can just whip up a turbo kit. i have been researching this topic for about a year and i have just now started fabrication of my system. My honest advice is if you are interested in a turbo buy the kit from tiago (the force fed fab kit). it offers great gains at a nice price.

k, that's what I thought... yeah... I just want the kit all nice and tidy.
All I need is that tiago kit right? I won't have to buy a new exhaust or new headers or any of that will I?
I'm looking to put this on a '96 or '97 camaro, or a similar 'bird.

well, since you are looking at a pre 2000 car, im not sure about what you need to do (2000+ has tubular manifolds which are basically shorty headers). i think the kit will still bolt up nicely, though i would personally upgrade the cat to a 3" (if you need to keep it) and get a texas speed exhaust for it, but thats me. i know that tiago runs open downpipe (open exhaust after the turbo) on his personal car and loves it. email tiago for the specifics to make sure though (to email him click on his name in one of the posts he has commented in and all of his info is in his file)

If you want something that is nice, tidy, and looks good too, FFF (tiago) is not the kit for you. it does offer good gains, and isnt badly priced, but it is poorly built and offers little practicality with no provision for any kind of exhaust, and very little ground clearance. And it takes 6 months to a year to get one. Just my opinion though
disclaimer: this is a forced induction forum, where people share their opinions on forced induction kits/subjects. and since FFF is not a site sponsor, opinions should be able to be posted about that kit (good or bad) without posts being locked by someone who shall remain nameless who has a conflict of interest as a forced induction moderator, but again, I wont say who.
I was looking at these... the most expensive one says "good for 850 horsepower setups"... er... mine is not near that. Being the most expensive would it be the optimum one for a '96 '97 camaro or similar firebird?
I kind of need you to teach me like you'd teach a child at this point in my car knowledge... I have nothing in my head to compare anything to so I don't know what's good.

Being the most expensive doesn't guarantee anything, nor does the "bang for the buck" argument which gets thrown around so much on this site. Here are the things to look for in a kit: Build quality, warranty, name brands.
Look at the overall quality of the kit and decide for yourself if it's good enough for you. Look at how the piping is run, look at the quality of craftsmanship involved, look very closely at everything.
Warranty is very important, because it shows a company is willing to stand behind their work. If there is no written warranty posted anywhere, you might want to think about going to a different company.
Name brands go without saying. I think we can all agree it's better to spend $500 for a Garrett turbo than $250 for a nameless turbo from "Earls Backyard Turbo Farm."
If you're going to take advice from someone on which kit to buy, make sure that someone actually HAS or once HAD the kit they're pushing you to get. That eliminates the possibility of you buying a crappy kit because someone was trying to help a friend make another sale.
EDIT: When you saw that they said "Good for 850 hp!" Just ignore that part. As stated by Corky Bell in Maximum Boost"All Kit makers will represent their kit as the most powerful. Absolute power is the last reason to make a decision." Personally, i lose respect for a company when they make statements like "No one has accomplished what we have" or something along those lines.
so basically like I said before I CAN'T really decide which kit to get becuase I'm so ignorant... can you basically recommend a few of the absolute best and I'll look up reviews on them and try to find people that do or have had them?

There is only 1 turbo kit to my knowledge. Also I've only seen 1 marketed supercharger kit as well. I know there are others just never seen advertising for them recently.

Just do some searches man. The resources are right here, just use 'em ;) If you look at the top of the forum, there are links to reviews of the powerdyne setup. Start there.

Why can't you just whip up a turbo kit? Turbocharging a vehicle is not as difficult as people make it seem. The hardest part, i'd say, is the actual fabrication of the system. The rest is easy. All it takes is some reading skills.

Second the exhaust on the FFF kit can be routed to a catback (if you want more backpressure than open downpipe) THought the clearance in them is pretty low, the spot wher its lowest is at the k-member, and unless your a moron goin 15 over a speedbump, isnt a problem. Though it has been done with the FFF kit with no problem. Can say ne thing bout the 6 month thing but i do kno it had to do with the shop welding the parts inccorectly i belive.
My recommendations based on the posts of the guy who started this thread is buy a kit and get it professionally installed.

So my truck is finally getting some work done, after 17 years, Oil pressure sensor went out and it’s located under the lower intake manifold. Have to...
