• calculating psi???

I was wondering if there was a formula to calculate the speed of air coming into your car into psi. Like lets say if you where able to push 200mph wind into your cars throttle body. what would the psi be??? Thanks.

I could be wrong here, but I'm fairly certain that velocity does not have much to do with pressure. I think it more so involves volume than any thing else.

true, it is measured in volume, not velocity. Compress air and you have a greater volume, thats what the turbo's and sc's do, inbetween them and the TB they build up pressure.

Hey, thanks for the replies. Another question then. If I was able to push 200 + air through the throttle body, would that increase HP and about how much would that increase it by. I figure that it should increase it some what, since it would be something like ram air. Is there a formula for that? Thanks.

ram air only really comes in at around 90+ mph, and that simulates 1psi about. so, if you can get 200mph wind going into that little amount of space, you'd push ~2psi. you'd have to have that constant though.
and that's a rough guess.

I heard the ram air takes in effect at about 60mph, just hear say tho

There is an equation that is usally used to explain this sort of thing. It's called Bernoulli's equation. sometime the mechanical energy equation.
I vaguely remember it from some of the classes i have taken. don't want to tell you the wrong thing, so i'm going to consult my books and memory and try and work out a way of explaining it that doesn't involve calculus

ok...off i go...probably will have it tomorrow,
later

edit: for a quick fix see this link

can explain it more, if you have more questions

oh, and another note...volume and velocity can be interchanged almost...you just that the flow speed and multiply by the cross-sectional area of the flow (like in a pipe) and then you have the volumetric flow rate.

come on, i know you have questions, ask, ask
