Yes, on a flat pulley, it is from the contact area. The grooves don't count...
On a ribbed pulley, I don't remember if you measure on the high part of the rib, or down in the valley...\'98 A4 Camaro v6->v8 conversion, and STS kit next
v6: 13.6 Powerdyne, 13.2 150 shot, 13.8 120 shot, 14.3 85 shot, 15.7 stock
v8(na): 12.18@113, 392rwhp
Moderator on www.mtfba.org and www.frrax.com (Road Race & Autocross)
Car pics, TN Region SCCA

I measured mine at the belt contact area and it is a 3.1 inch pully. So my 2.8 should defiently be good. By the way JohnD.......Your desighn is really good. You have a 2.8 inch 9 pound pully and you actually got it to work without even grooving it thinks to your power rap. You saw 5 pounds on your very first run. Most people with the 6 pound pully wouldnt even see 5 pounds that quick. You say you have seen 9 pounds with it........ What kinda boost is it holding on average? NO wonder PerryV had a hard time holding boost!!!!!! He was trying to get a 9 pound pully to work on the old desighn. Thanks Laron! :D
I'm holding 6-8 psi with it, but I am noticing that the belt stretches easily... I don't know if it will continue to stretch, or if it is just getting broken in.
I've driven it only a little bit. Still working out some kinks with the ducting, and the new maf sensor arrangement.
I think I will get it grooved this coming week. I'm looking at probably 5 or 6 grooves, 1/32" each, on 1/8" centers.\'98 A4 Camaro v6->v8 conversion, and STS kit next
v6: 13.6 Powerdyne, 13.2 150 shot, 13.8 120 shot, 14.3 85 shot, 15.7 stock
v8(na): 12.18@113, 392rwhp
Moderator on www.mtfba.org and www.frrax.com (Road Race & Autocross)
Car pics, TN Region SCCA

Yea the belt will stretch very easily (especialy the gates wich sucks) I just put on a new dayco yesterday and I had to do 6 acelleration runs and stops to tighten the belt before hitting 6 psi. It was holding 6 psi but may stretch out a little bit more. Im guessing one or two more acelleration runs and tightenings and she will be holding 6 or more psi with no retightening. The reason I say the gates sucks is because it stretches much easier and dosent hold belt dressing worth a dam. I never got belt dressing to last more than a day with that belt. With the dayco the belt dressing is sprayed once and pesonaly lasted me months.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------6-8 psi? Can you please tell me how much boost in 1st gear and so on through out the gears. Mine on the norm is 5 or 6 in 1st..... 6 or 7 in 2nd and 3rd drops down to 5 and builds up to .... Well Im not sure how far it will go cas I always slow down but I know atleast 7 psi or more.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------Those grooves sound alot like mine and should work out pretty good. Do you think I should get my pully smaller than 2.8? Im just not sure??????? Maybe I should go 2.75 like Shirl just to be safe?????????But Im scared to get too much boost....I dont want anymore than 9 1/2 really.....That couild be too much boost for our engine.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------Hey... Have you noticed that sure 6 pounds feel good and all but you can actually feel the car pull strong from 6-9 psi. That extra 2 or three pounds makes a huge differance.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------L aterPowerdyne 98 a4 convert

stock 16.6 @ 86

6 lbs boost 15.1 @ 90

04 A4 2.73 geared white Corvette Coupe

stock- 13.5 @ 103

LS6 conversion-13.1 @ 107
http://members.cardomain.com/greenglow98 ( pics of intercooled powerdyne)

I've only had it out twice... So I'm not sure how the boost differed in each gear. I'll have to record that, the next time I'm out.
I pulled the blower off tonight. I'm dropping the pulley off at the shop in the morning, to have it grooved. I also made my bushing behind the pulley about 1 millimeter shorter. The pulley was out just slightly too far, and was rubbing some of the edge of the belt off.
My pulley is actually 2.75 now, after they trued it up at the shop. The part that hadn't worn down was still 2.8, but they had to take it down to 2.75 all across the pulley to get it flat again. I don't know how much it will (or won't) slip being that small... I'll know more after mine is grooved too. I didn't know Shirl's was 2.75, that's an interesting tidbit. I wonder what she would run on just the blower, with that pulley size?!
9.5 boost probably in itself wouldn't hurt the engine. As long as the a/f ratio is right, and the timing is ok so there is not detonation. You might need to pull a little timing with that much boost, depending on the charge temp. If you have a way to monitor knock retard, you can see how much kr you're getting. Then if it gets too high (10 degrees or so) you know you'll need to back the timing down a little bit.
When I had the car out the last time, it was late, and it was dark, and I hadn't driven it in a long time. So it felt fast anyway... But I know that when I should have only been doing about 70, it was already running over 90.... I was VERY surprised to look at the speedo and see how fast I was already going! It was a little scary!
The problem I'm having right now, is driveability. I modified the heck out of my intake tract, cut off most of the tb, put in an LS1 maf sensor, moved the maf sensor to the suction side of the blower, reworked all the ductwork that came with the kit, etc. If I get it out on the road, and get it moving, then it runs great. But it doesn't want to idle at a steady speed (it surges from 650 to 1500 rpms), and it dies when I first try to start moving. It's running way rich at idle. So I'm trying to resolve that problem before I do much more with testing the blower performance.\'98 A4 Camaro v6->v8 conversion, and STS kit next
v6: 13.6 Powerdyne, 13.2 150 shot, 13.8 120 shot, 14.3 85 shot, 15.7 stock
v8(na): 12.18@113, 392rwhp
Moderator on www.mtfba.org and www.frrax.com (Road Race & Autocross)
Car pics, TN Region SCCA

Mine surges alot at adle too, but not as bad as your's. It will also just turn off if I burn the tires and then stop the car. Happens at leaste once every track outing. I don't have a S/C yet but, check this out. I put on the whisper lid, K&N filter and removed the MAF screen. I developed a bad surge at idle. I had a tornado on the shelf that I ordered before I knew any better. What the heck, I stuck it in the throttle body and held it in place with a little silicone. Believe it or not the surge is gone. I took it out the surge came back.
