Throttle body hole plug issues revisited

so people said to me

you have to put the hole to TB

i want to know the hole's exact location

so if you have picture i want..get it..

and where i can get powerdyne new belt?

Hi woojong..... Go buy a dayco belt 103 inches long (cost$40 Napa aouto parts).........Order a 2.8 inch grooved pully from www.aspraceing.com (cost $125)........Do a search for the john D power rap.......YOU SHOULD NOT NEED TO DROP YOUR CRANKCASE PRESSURE.

Does anyone have pictures of this? I remember Shirl talking about plugging a hole somewhere, supposedly this is what James @ Vector rigged to avoid having the dipstick shoot out. I'm curious...

But i forget where. I did this EXACT THING -- Hole in TB and added a breather, and I based it off of an install on the internet. Probably McCanda's instructions. I need to search for my old turbo install thread, it's covered in there.

HOW TO DO IT:
Take off your throttle body. You will notice that on the intake (front of engine, filter, radiator side), behind the MAF screen (where applicable) there is a small hole about the size of a pencil eraser. Look in it, and see where it lines up with the whole hole tract that goes from the TB to the upper intake manifold's PCV valve. You want to block this hole with JB Weld (hardening epoxy) exactly at the exit to the filter side of the TB. Then take a dremel or drill (dremel is easy to slot a hole with) and, lining up with the track, slice a large vent hole in it. Clean out the shavings, you're good to go. It's aluminum, so it's very easy to do. Hardest part is waiting for the JB Weld to dry.

The basic goal of the install is to vent the PCV to the air / atmosphere instead of back into the TB.

IMHO, I wouldn't trust the JB weld but that's just me.

I tapped the hole with a 3/8 NF 24 tap. Then threaded in the same size plug. Doing this allows you to remove it at a later date if you sell the car or something of that nature.

Section 15 of these instructions has the details along with a photo of the hole to plug with the plug installed.

Make sure you run a breather on your valve cover if you do this.

suddnly.. a small car slipped on snow...and then..

the car hit rear of my car...so..

tail lights, trunk, rear bumper was broken...

Houston, we have a problem.

Yesterday we used some JB Weld and blocked the hole on Jenn's car exactly as shown in Mcaanda's instructions. But in this thread, Rob is talking about using a Dremel... and his instructions are a bit, eh, confusing?

Now the car won't start. It turns and sputters once or twice but that's it.

What was this about venting the hole to the atmosphere? (Why was this part not in Mcaanda's instructions?)

Here's my logic. That hole leads from the PCV to the throttle body. On NA cars this allows pressure from the PCV to be relieved by entering the throttle body. On boosted cars, there is high pressure on both sides so this does not work. Instead of plugging this hole, shouldn't it be re-routed? So why did Mcaanda's instructions only mention plugging it?

We DO have a breather on the oil fill cap.

Help!

I would suspect something other than the pcv plug as the problem. Possibly a vac line or sensor not hooked back up on the re-install of the tb.

The venting is to allow any pressure that does build up in the crankcase, to get out without pushing any seals out. If the pcv tubing is sealed, and there are no other outlets, then the pressure has to go somewhere... If you have a vented breather cap then it shouldn't matter.

There should not be equal high pressure on the crankcase side. There might be some pressure, but only what is getting past the rings. If the one-way valve in the pcv system didn't adequately prevent boost from getting into the crankcase (via the pcv tubing) then the crankcase could build to a higher pressure in that case. Breaking the pcv link eliminates the possibility of ever having that problem.

JB weld in hole and breather in for the oil cap worked just fine for me. Before I did that, the oil wouldn't gravity drain from the turbo to the pan.

Yeah, Stefan, it should be re-routed to the intake tube so it re-circulates.
