I'm basing this a lot on the rksport/ATI? unit. 6 lbs is safe on stock fuel, 7 or 8 then on intercooled. stock injectors will be fine. timing shouldn't have to be shot down too much with 6 lbs, but with 8, there's always the option of maft+ as an upgrade over the mini-afc

navyblue2000,
Good luck on this project. I know a lot of us have thought this through, so if you have any questions, someone may have an answer.

I understand your price of $3400 is a high one to be on the safe side, but $3400 is a nice price for a custom set-up if you ask me, so I don't understand some of the *****ing. The fact that you aren't out for profit is a great thing and I stand behind you in this and want to help you in anyway I can. Again, good luck if you follow through with this.

Just to help all you guys out, I do not suggest goin over 8 PSI without some kind of ignition retard preferably MSD DIS4 with the boost retard addon. The shop said that a good reason that my heads were cracked(besides the miles on my car) is that I overboosted, and because the ignition is not compensating for the boost, it caused serious detonation, thus helping to crack my heads. He said my headgaskets were fine, and that the heads were the weak point. I am going to order my DIS4 hopefully tomorrow. My FMU is in, and my engine is in the process of going back in with the turbo setup on it. Not trying to steal the post, but I know some people are wondering how im making out. But anyways, how do you guys plan on routing the exhaust to the turbo? Is the turbo going to be in front, or in back of the engine? Where are you planning on mounting the intercooler on Firebirds, seeing it is harder to get air past the front bumper than Camaros? Just to help out, I suggest trying to mount an intercooler in the wheel well where the CAI filters usually goes, and make a small scoop to help air in there, possibly cut it out. That way it can be a universal intercooled system for Camaro/Firebird. I wish I lived closer to all you guys, I would love to help out.

I always thought it would be cool to get an SS style hood with a scoop and make a top mount intercooler. Think it could work?

yeah, that kind of intercooler would work, but you'd have to spend more money on a hood.

formulao - yeah, i've thought of placing the intercooler right there. It makes for a more universal design, there still might be routing issues, but it can still be done, and be more universal

Thats the route im doing with my intercooler. After my car is out then the intercooler will go in. I have an intercooler from an Turbo II RX7, which is the 89 style body type with the top mount. I woldnt suggest top mounting ours because there will be a big issue with routing all kinds of pipes that look like 2 stroke dirt bike exhaust(if you know what I mean). Hey, but if it works then go with it.

Here is a pic of the intercoolers used in the Incon twin Turbo set-up for th LS1's. It's like what Formulao96 is talkin about.

I think what really needs to be done is a group of people get together and develop a kit on one car. Document all the steps, procedures, parts, dimensions, problems..ect.

With this, people could buy their own parts, used if they wanted. This would only work if you're truly not out to make a profit, but merely out to cover your losses in the R&D stage.

You could list suggested parts, and for the piping, you could list CAD designs, dimensions, material used..ect.

You could supply parts if you wanted to, but mainly your business should be the info guide, and maybe a video. Price on something like that should be around $300.

It's just a suggestion, but it solves the problem about people wanting to buy used parts on ebay and use them for the turbo kit...

The kit should be easy to piece together as long as you have a header producer. Get the headers, and the rest will follow easily. Get me twin turbo headers if ya can too.
