  • hi, my name is larry and i know nothing about turbos....

    Hi Larry!

ok, so im getting the picture that if im gunna do some kind of turbo setup, that its gunna end up costing me an arm and a leg. Someone clear some of these things up for me. Whats stopping me from getting this turbo off ebay (see link below) for about 100-150 bucks, taking it to a local shop, spending like another grand on it, and having a cool setup. What kind of shop could do this kind of custom work? Would they even know how to on our cars? Where does all that extra cash come from to set this thing up? would i really end up spending another 2000 on the thing at the shop? Somebody help please!

you forgot about inter cooler, turbo timer, boost controller...personally, you'd be better off reading a turbo magazine for a year first.

You can know everything about turbos, but you still can't get around the problem of routing the exhaust plumbing under the hood of a 4th gen. F-body. The engine lends itself well to this idea, but the engine compartment doesn't. Only one guy has had some success doing this but he was willing to sacrifice his air conditioning system. If you are willing to do this, then I have lots of ideas.

is it necessary to sacrifice ac for a supercharger too?

No,The new ones from Rksport, etc are made to bolt on to the existing engine without any major modifcations.

Can't be too hard to route the exhaust, if they can do it for an LS1-TT- then we can too.

**** adds up if u do it right, thats all I gotta say.

and running piping isn't hard, but time consuming, therefore LABOR

well, im wondering this. if i show up at some shop with all the necessary parts, and ive got my little v6 camaro with me, i'd be pretty sure that they havent worked on too many turbo jobs for a little 6er camaro. whats the chance the shops just gunna laugh at me and send me home?

what sort of shops should i even consider going to with this?

forget about the turbo timer, they are for lazy people. Just don't turn off the car after you've been beating on it. As for the boost controller, you can make one out of parts from HomeDepot for $5...just beware of boost creep :D
