  • Ideal A/R Ratio

What would be a good compressor and turbine A/R for our engines? I wouldnt want it to take too long to spool up, but I would rather be a little bigger than a little smaller.

Based on what I've been reading, it seems a few people think that both of them should be in the .60's- is this accurate? Thanks alot!

    on a 3.8 I think 0.7 would be fine

    (I run a 0.8 on a 3.4L and it lags a little)

I ran all the numerical calculations for that some time back. I don't remember what values I got though.

I have them written down somewhere but they are 4 hours away at school.

When trying to decide on an A/R ratio you want to keep your converter size in mind. For a 12" stock stall converter, a .69 a/r works well. Running a .81 on a 12" converter will make the car very doggy on the street.

        Hope this helps,

I have a manual, so there is no worry about convertors. What do you mean by "doggy"?

Ah, I assumed you were running an auto. "Doggy" means it'll run like a pooch on the steet, i.e., a large A/R housing/large converter combo won't spool. An .81 with a manual would still be too big, IMO. As for a compressor size, something in the TA34 to TA49 range would give you room to grow.
