Water Methanol Injection

Formulao96 brought this up in the Supplemental Injectors post and I wanted to see what everyone else thought:

I'm claiming [img]graemlins/bs.gif[/img] on those types of gains, but then again I'm no chemistry major. I can't see where atomizing the equivalent of windshield wiper fluid into your intake would help any.

You should see pretty decent gains with Methanol Injection, I didn't look at the link to see exactly what kind of gains they are claiming, because you can run more boost without the worry of KR.

Edit: OK I read the link. The only way I can see them showing that kind of horsepower gain is if they were already seeing a huge amount of knock before they installed this injection setup. Even then, I agree, that sounds a bit high.

I think what it means is that they were able to turn up the boost more to create a 100+hp without KR. They should state that more clearly instead of coming off like the methonal injecton purley created that HP

I think it would be difficult to tune. But it makes sense and im sure it does what its supposed too.

I think that is a great kit for any forced induction car seeing that KR is one of the biggest threats. I guess it basically gives you your lost timing back that you gave up by adding the forced induction. Like I said I am going to pick it up a little after Christmas and give it a shot.

Plus they said that it was to replace an intercooler and not suppliment it. Remember that an increase of 14# will result in over a 500 degree change in the intake temp. So that would mean that you would need to use it almst all the time. Methanol, no, very hard on engine parts. Ethanol, would be my choice, water....sounds like that would work better on a diesel engine.

It is supposed to work in conjuction with an intercooler, and the methanol is mixed 50/50 with water so it isnt as hard on the engine.

It seems like it would just be much easier to run a good water-air intercooler. I plan on building one, so it wont even be that expensive.

Alcohol/water injection is very old technology for forced induction that works very well.

It was used extensively in fighter aircraft during WWII along with multi-stage superchargers in order boost power output up to 15% over the theoretical maximum without destroying the engine.

But if you want to utilize alchohol/water injection don't buy a $300 kit. You can build your own for less than $100.

I know the idea is simple, and to make a kit COULD be easy, but what do they use to spray the mixture at over 50 PSI?

Let me say this. Water injection is a bandaid soultion to high knock. Its difficult to tune and wears out your engine. Stay away from it. Put your money towards modification that increase efficiency.

I've seen solutions that just use a standard fan spray nozzle thats normally used for dry nitrous kits.

What do you mean it wears out your engine? I've done a lot of research into alcohol/water injection and I haven't seen anything that says that. Please give me some more details in case I've missed something along the line.

DIY Alcohol Water Injection System

Thats the main one I saw. Its designed for turbo setups but you could easily modify it to work with a supercharger if you so desired.

I may have some more links somewhere. I had to reformat my computer a couple months ago and most of my links are on backup cds. I'll look when I get home from work.
