It seems like Turbo is cheaper than supercharger.
I really want a forced induction in my car but I'm on a limited budget. I know I cant afford a supercharger but I thought maybe I can afford a turbo! Garett turbos are only like $500 on eBay and I have friends who can weld and stuff. So, how much did your turbo setup cost you? And can you help me with my turbo design?
full turbo charge ( if you do it your self ) with the right hook ups shouldnt cost you more than 2000, right now im looking at around 1500 when i start on my project in february, dont ask about how im doing it cause im not quite sure yet =) but i have my thoughts, ive got 1000$ right now and soon to start selling some stuff hopeing to get around 1500$ ( including the 1000$ i alreayd have )
imma be getting a .60 a/r t3/4 hybrid for about 500$ ( give take )
then imma buy a bunch of mandrel bent U pipes to cut from ( kinda mimicing Tiago ) that would be about 100$ max ( already got the guy to give me the pipe i pay him after im finished )
then the charge pipes and stuff will also be built out of mandrel bent pipe,
the oil lines and water lines will be made for free because i know a guy that for some reason loves to help people with turbos but hey i wont talk trash about a guy willing to help his competition, just goes to show... his integra is a beast
then of course i have bought Pgriffths cam ( yes his "crappy" cam) for pretty cheap, ill be installing it my self
ill also probably have to buy a scavenger pump depending on how low the turbo is compared to the oil pan
so far my calculated total ( as i have not spendt any money yet because i havnt got my x-mas cash yet, my parents decided to gimme money andlet me spend it as i please ) would be
~500~ + ~85~ + ~100~ + ~25~ + ~325~ = ~1035~
and i know there is other stuff im going to need thats going to add up so thats why expect to have to spend more money , dont expect to do something extrealy cheap and expect pro results, somethings gonna break, when it does, your going to wish you hadnt cut corners

ill be lookin at about $1500 when all is said and done. im either doin twin t3s or a t4. but then on top of the $1500 comes forged internals with low compression pistions to help out.
Here's my list of stuff that I bought that are turbo spacific:
Turbo: $250
MSD DIS-4 + CIU's: $320
Larger Injectors(used 6 or 8): $230
FMU: ~$170
Exhaust Pipes(cut by me, welded by friend): $20
Various Intake Pipes and sillicon connections: $100
9" Connical K&N: $45
Blow off valve: $30
braided fuel\oil lines: ~$60
Oil temp and boost gage: ~$80
Oil cooler: ~$150
Turbo rebuild kit(used turbo worked but leaked oil so I rebuilt it and now it works fine): $150
Grand Total: $1605
Nothing has been done to the enternals of the engine but I do plan on building up another engine I have spacifically for the turbo. That will of course cost more than $1605...

Hey anyone got any pic of their turbo setup? Also, does anyone have the dimensions of the parts they made for the turbo install?(Like the mounting bracket)
I might be able to get an access to a CAD machine and if I can get the dimensions and everything, those thing can make it exactly.
What about new piston and rods? Won't I need a new piston and rods to lower the compression of my engine so it won't blow the heads with the turbo?
I wonder how much that would cost.
matters how much boost you want to run. I'd stick with the turbocharger set-up first. Worry about that and tuning it. If you can get a turbocharger set-up up and working, then you can worry about the limitations of the engine and build that up once you know what you need to do.
That's my plan. Once I have the money I'll build up an engine to take more boost. Custom forged pistons w/ lower comp. ratio. I'm using the stock rods since they're already forged but I got them checked and resized w/ ARP bolts. Pistons will run about $100 per. So around $600 for a set.

I'd love 2 do a turbo project on my car, but i don't have the time 2 let it sit around cuz it's my daily driver. I'd leave it at low boost though cuz I'd be running on basically a stock engine(7-9 psi), and I get it'd put out the same hp that the ATI kit would put out at 10 psi. i think that'll be one of my last projects to her though, cuz i wanna do all the little supporting mods that'll make it easier 4 the car 2 handle a turbo kit. there's a ton of stuff that u gotta look at to eek every last ounce of power outa the engine while keeping it save and daily driven.

7 psi is pushing it on stock pistons... 9 would for Sure get blow by with out a doubt, stephan and mcannda alike have hit 8 and got the miracle of the bottle rocket dip stick
our stock pistons have a problem handleing more than aound 15.0 effective compression and at 7 psi its approx 14.4-7 something like that for our 10:1 ratio pistons, So. to be safe run 4-7 now if he had 9:1 pistons it would be totaly different
