ok for starts i need as much info as i can on turbo charging the 3.8 ...my motor is stock and has 118K miles on it. if i go ahead and do it over winter...How many psi's can i run considering i'll have about 122K miles on it? And what are some good turbos to go with? I'm planning on doing a cam and getting the heads and intake done (somewhere down the road).
but if you could give me some advice on just about everything it would be great.
thanks!

do you think it would be cheaper to do an engine swap i can get an lt1 for fairly cheap...but my problem is changing my trans, and just about everything.....thats why i watned to stick with a 3.8 but thats why i need some help deciding, ive been going nuts debating over what to do !
V8 swap or turbo....
leave your ideas i need the help

both . I would honestly go with the turbo, easier to do....But you do have high miles...as do I. Which makes me...I'm sorry, want to buy an ls1 camaro instead of doing all of the swapping. The only problem with buying an ls1 is that you have to do some work to it, if you want to run higher than 9 psi. Their compression is a lot higher than in our 3.8's. Just a little food for thought.
well....i ended up buying about half of everything i need to turbocharge my car. I dont think my miles will really screw me up. Im going to do a fuel injection service and im going to look for a good engine cleaner. and if all else fails in 2 years or so ill buy a new motor to drop in and swap my turbo stuff to.
but does anyone know where i can get cheap turbo piping? i was thinking about just having my friend at work bend me some stuff since hes good when it comes to custom exhaust work.
thanks again!

Just because you didn't have luck with your turbo setup doesn't mean an LT1, or LS1 swap would be better.
The work involved in the swap far surpasses the work it takes to install the turbo kit. FFF kits sell for cheaper than it would cost to swap. If you make your own and do it right, it'll cost next to nothing compared to a motor swap.
If you want a V8, buy a car that came with a V8.
And for the record, my V6 eats LT1's for breakfast on 5psi.
I had plenty of luck with the setup, I couldn't believe how well it actually worked when I was done. Sure it had its issues, but who doesn't. I just feel that putting a setup that was meant to create that power in that car is a lot simpler than trying to squeeze it out of a smaller engine. Plus, a few months after the LT1 swap you can do some minor mods and be pushing 350-400 horse. If you want that on our motor you have to put a nice sized turbo on and maybe even get into some bottom end work to make it happen. I spent a good $4500 on all the parts to make mine a really nice setup, and that was with fabbing the pipes and even flanges myself. An LT1 motor swap would cost about $2500 with a 6 speed trans. With a 4L60E your lookin at only $2000. If I could do it again, I'd go with an LT1, maybe even save the money for an LS1. I do agree with you that if you want a V8 get a V8 car, its much cheaper and easier that way. I've also not given up on mine. The oil scavenge pump is here and goes in monday hopefully. Then back to tuning. that90spunk, if you need help, let me know, maybe we could meet up this fall at some point, you're only in PA, not THAT far. Good luck....
