I just ordered my mocal oil return pump for my turbo setup. I had mounted the turbo too low and as a result the oil wouldn't drain back to the pan fast enough. I was just wondering if anyone had used one of these on any type of turbo setup (sts or traditional) and if they have any advice. I'm guessing I should power it off the ignition circuit so that it gets juice only when the engine is running, but should I use a restrictor of any kind so as not to starve the turbo of oil? I feel like if i just ran the pump it'd work fine, the turbo was obviously getting plenty of oil....Well, any help would be great. Thanks.

Did you connect the pump inlet directly to the turbo outlet? Usually people use a recovery tank just below the turbo and then pump the oil out of that with the pump. I'm not sure how well it would work with it directly connected to the turbo.
hmmm....good point....so I'd be letting the oil pool up in there for a bit first, then pulling it from the recovery tank. How big should I make the tank though?

The tank does not have to be very big at all. You can try using a relatively large drainage hose like 3/4 or 5/8 which will let the turbo drain better and then connect a 3/8 or 5/16 hose to that line and into the mocal pump. Make sure you get a check valve on the oil inlet. This will preent pooling when the engine is off.
I'm going to redo my layout and might need to use one as well. I did some work on my brother-in-laws AC system and I'm thinking about using his old AC accumulator...just cut it open and gut it. It's a nice little aluminum piece.
CM, I'm not quite sure what you are sayin about the different hose sizes. From what I gather, you're saying use a -10 (5/8) from the turbo drain into the "reservoir." Then use a -6 (3/8) from the "reservoir" to the mocal inlet. Then I would assume use another -6 from the mocal outlet to the oil pan? Also why/where would I want the check valve? As long as the mocal shuts off when the engine is off there should be no oil flow anywhere, right?
Also, good call on the AC accumulator, I have an extra hangin around. Are you gonna get fittings tig welded to it or what? Let me know, I'm curious....
