Well the title says it all. I got a air temp gauge in place of my narrowband a/f that drove me nuts flashing all the time. So I put this in last night, and sure enough the air intake temp, taken at the sc outlet/tb intake tube is 125-133 so far. I have never seen it below 119 running. So I have decided on an intercooler. Question is, after the 9lb pully gets here (ASP is making one, but are a month behind) where can I put this? I'm not the type to take off the front clip to install a ic there. Is there anywhere else to put one without taking a bunch of stuff off? Any help is appriciated. I know I will loose a pound or so of pressure, but running that hot of air into the motor sucks. I do have CAI, but no help. I saw a photo of a lime green camaro somewhere that had one under the hood next to the sc. I can't remember where the link was. Thanks all, Jessica

133 intake temp isn't to bad. Mine runs 225 on a hot day. I tried a intercooler on mine and the boost dropped about 3 psi and the car ran slower. It could of been the intercooler but the size of it was 33"x6 1/2x 3" with 2 1/2" inlet and outlet. It dropped my temp. about 60-80 degrees but I lost all the boost along with it. I would suggest a methanol injection kit. You can buy one on ebay from coolingmist for $180.00. P.S. If you want to try a intercooler and have the one above with all the piping and connectors I use on mine. Send me a email if your interested. Your saying 133* under boost?
Thats nothin I was seeing 180*+ at 8psi.
Intercoolers and meth injection are detonation suppression devices more than anything. They allow you to run more boost. Thats why they are popular with the LS1/LT1 community on low boost setups. We have low compression, so it doesn't matter.
A very expensive and very well designed intecooler setup might pick up a couple of HP. Your talking 10 at best. Not worth the 500-1000$ your going to spend.
But you've heard all this before, and I'm sure I haven't changed your mind.Turbocharged and intercooled.
17psi(oops), stock fuel pump, no FMU
http://www.cardomain.com/id/phoenix64
Video: ftp://ftp.pfabrication.com Assorted car ****: TurboCamaroFull.

pathogen has a twin intercooler set up. I think someone else here has it too. not sure though. maybe soimethign to consider if you don't want to loose the boost as much95 Firebird
http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/673250
http://photobucket.com/albums/y217/andrewbrandon19/

me on a good day------> linky

OK I have a question.... ssms5411 stated that the intercooler dropped the temp 60-80 degrees and lowered the PSI by 3lbs. Wouldn't this occur because the IC lowered the temps and therefore the air pressure? I would think that cooler air = less pressure. I thought that once you add an IC you turn up the boost because now you have lower temps, so now you can afford to add more boost. Or does a good IC keep the boost the same, and just lower the temp?2002 Silver Firebird A4
T-Tops, Leather, Y87, W68, Chrome Wheels
Bone Stock

There is always some loss using an intercooler I believe. I should loose 1-2 pounds, but I ordered a 9 lb pully, so I should still run about 7. I ordered a small IC last night, and prolly next weekend get it put in. I am curious to see what happens. The whole thig should cost about $100 or so.Jessica :)
Kansas: There\'s no place like home...99 Firebird Blown/6lbs, Eaton w/3.42\'s CI headers Z28 Exaust
CAI, #36 injectors Intense PCM

133* is not a bad temp reading at all. Especially in a summer heat like this.
In Calif. I've heard of turbo guys running 225* even with their intercooler.
I see you already ordered it. I was going to tell you to hold off. Because guys like SSMS5411 and Woojong who runs over 10 with their PD did experience some lost of boost and power. Both of them have said that they are better off without it.
I was going to say that you be better off with Water/Alcohol injection. But hopefully the one you ordered is the proper size with minimum lost of boost. Sorry, I'm not trying to discourage you or anything. I just hope it works out good for you. Keep us posted.

FYI the only person I've heard of who has claimed to gain anything from an intercooler is 98greenglow.
If you look at his setup, his claims are tough to swallow. I don't want to pick on the guy, but he was using an intercooler designed for a 4-cylinder, and he had it mounted behind the radiator. The air coming out of the radiator is at around 140-150*. In your case you would be heating the air not cooling it off. So he lost 1.5-2psi, heated the air 10-30* and that some how made more power?
I realize after putting that much effort into something you want to see gains, but he did a real disservice to the memebers of this board.
Best of luck though, I hope you have a better experence than everyone else has.Turbocharged and intercooled.
17psi(oops), stock fuel pump, no FMU
http://www.cardomain.com/id/phoenix64
Video: ftp://ftp.pfabrication.com Assorted car ****: TurboCamaroFull.

sorry Jessica, i think you are over reacting though.
as many have already stated in this thread your 133 IAT is nothing to worry about. the air coming in the car is probably 80 minimum. (florida summer)
your engine when warm is 190* or higher. most normal IAT range is about 90 (car moving) to 120.
The deal with greenglows (or any small intercooler) with regards to the powerdyne is the 'smoothing' effect that is encountered when the piping is downsized from stock. Stock powerdyne piping is 2.5" at blower discharge to 3" discharge tubing to 3.5" TB connection. by keeping the piping at 2.5" diameter there is less expansion in the discharge tubing (air retains a tiny bit more heat) but under pressure the air gets to the throttle body faster and sometimes 'smoother' because of the increased backpressure in the smaller 2.5 discharge tubing vs. 3 inch discharge tubing. in other words the 2.5" main tubing will yield great low and mid gains and feel 'smoother.' Cars spend less time at their highest rpm range than they do at low and mid range. This can make the car seem faster and can atually make it faster depending on how you drive and what gears you have, etc.
I have 2.5" piping, no intercooler. no lag, no slip...just hauls *** as soon as I punch it.
But...you are moving to a 9 pound pulley. the intercooler 'could' help.
I don't know what kind you bought but viper just posted (above post) a very important pic. there is also a thread (current) where somebody posted the ATI vortech kit with pics. find that thread and look at those pics. they also have the intercooler mounted down behind the bumper/above the air deflector. If I do an intercooler I will do it that way.
I also might do water injection instead. (if and when i upgrade to 10psi)
I never saw how steve had his intercooler rigged up. I rembember it seemed like a big*** sucker and was surprised that it seemed to be so restrictive. His experience pretty much put the kybosh on me worrying about/considering an intercooler for the powerdyne.
goodluck. hope it works for you.
