  • throwing codes with the supercharger on

    Ifinally got the car together
it sounds real nice and drives nice
but i keep getting a P0300 and sometimes a p1350 codes from my computer. Can this be caused by the aftermarket crane retard module. I know on other gm engines that if you remove the crankshaft position sensor that you will get a random missfire code? Has any body had this problem after an engine rebuild?

i don't use the crane retard module. at 6psi with premium fuel and CAI the car is fine.

the car has never seen KR.

at what rpm do you typically see boost?

i disconected the retard module and the car idled fine and threw no codes

so i hooked up a boost/vac guage and the higher i reved the engine the more vac i got i checked the supercharger and it is pushing out air but i wonder if it is not pushing enough air to make boost

has anyone had this problem with a used supercharger, I think the belt inside might need to be changed

My supercharger kicks in about 2800 or so. Mine usually takes WOT for boost. I run in vacuum most of the time. I havent thrown any codes since the install about 2 months ago, so I don't know about that. The belt inside the sc is cogged so I doubt it is slipping. Usually the more throttle you give it, the less vac ou will see, and then into boost. If you just nail it in Park you wont see boost. I have to have the drivetrain load on mine to get it. I dont have a KR installed with mine either. I took out my FMU when I got # 36 injectors. I run 93 octane.

What size pulley do you have? If you could put a 93 octane, then you won't need the TRC. I can only put 91 so TRC is for safety.

When you nail it, that's when boost happens. It may come on at 1800 or 2800 depending on the pulley size. The smaller the sooner. Also if you are going up a steep hill, boost comes on automatically, even when you are not nailing it.

Like Jessica said your car should be in vaccuum all the time when in normal driving. Which is actually good by the way. You don't want that constant load your car all the time.

There still is a difference being NA and Boosted. Even when under vaccuum, the car still feels strong even at low rpm.

I tend to take mine out every so often. I definately prefer to be boosted.

I have the stock six pound pulley that came with the supercharger.

I actually took off the supercharger to make finding the misfire problem easier. I am going to take the switch off and try to run it NA. I disagree with there being no boost with normal driving since if you rev up the rpm to the point where the supercharger is making 33,000 rpms you should start to see boost even if you are in park. It is nothing like a turbo where you can be in park and rev the engine and never see boost, because a turbo relies on exhaust gases not engine rpm.

The highest octane gas at the pumps out here is 94.

Well, even though the turbo runs on exaust gasses, then theoretically, it should run in boost also. It doesnt matter if its from a belt or exaust gasses, it's still spinning up right? I would think so, i mean the faster the RPM the more exaust gasses and more impeller speed. I dunno, maybe I should just go back to college.

with no load on the motor turbos need like 4000 + RPMS to see boost more load the better the spool
