  • Questions for Tiago or any other Turbo people . . .

OK I have decided it, turbos are bad arse and I want one. I know that Tiago manufactures his but I honestly dont have that much money to spend on one. Here is the question. Is there a way that I can buy all of the parts I need and then do it myself. I understand that if I mess up my car it is my fault but I am pretty crafty around cars and I believe that if someone pointed me in the right direction and could answer a few questions I could get a decent one made.

Is this even possible. I do have access to a welder and pipe bender (my neighbor is a freakin maniac when it comes to pipes and welding he has like 10 different welders and pipe bending equiptment and everything).

    Thank you in advance.
    Travis.

Just the parts by themselves will still be a chunk. Unless you go JY or EBAY, even still a chunk, just smaller ;)

Dang. How much would you estimate all of the tubing, turbo and intercooler be?

Depends on what Turbo and intercooler and tubing you get. I don't remember off hand how much the pipes cost me, but my Turbo was about $300, custom intercooler, $350, wastegate, $230... the list goes on. it all adds up ;)

you can cut costs by getting a turbo with an internal wastegate (between 350 and 450 on ebay for a rebuilt t3/t4 hybrid tubo with that feature), and by getting a intercooler that is an oem for another car. the saab viggen ic is a pretty decent sized one for a single turbo but i dont think its incredibly efficient and you will probably loose a few pounds of boost through it. also just get a bosch bov and save some more. i would suggest a cartech fmu (cheapest adjustable fmu). I would suggest at least getting an in line fuel pump or a walbro 255 in tank so you know you have enough fuel pressure. you will also need to get some oil lines to run to and from the turbo. most people on here are running between 7 and 10 pounds of boost so i would suggest running somewhere in that range. this will still be pretty expensive so you migh still want to think about the kit. also look at the pics on tiagos site and the ones teufel put up here http://www.camarov6.com/ubb/ultimate...c;f=4;t=001723 and that should give you some ideas as to how you can rout all the pipes and where to put the intercooler and all that funn stuff. if your friend is good with bending pipe (hopefully manderal bends) and can weld it wont be "too" hard. just do your research and find out everything you will need or might want and how to do it CORRETLY! then you should be fine. keep posting if you need more help, people are pretty quick to answer in forced induction here.

Well if you just buy the pipes it's going to be around 250 to buy a bunch of mandrel bents so you can cut the angles you need. On the turbo side of things though I wouldn't buy used. You never know if it's going to be crap when you get it or not. Plus you can't get the exact size you need unless you are lucky. I would just get a new one but that will be $$.

mandrel bending machines are extremely expensive, and very rare. I doubt his neighbor has one, probably just a standard exhaust shop bender, which will do the job, just not as well as mandrel pipes ;)

i would do what radcat said...just buy alot of mandrel bends. if you have a shop w/ a mandrel bending machine. go and ask if you can buy some"bending mistakes" off them and cut and weld what you need.

i would not use a regular bender after you spent all that time and especially $$$ it would be a shame to crap out on the piping and loose effiency
